For me... the lack of an available standard tranny in '82 was/is my biggest gripe. I didn't like when they dropped the convertible in '76, the more "generic GM" interior of 77, and the bubble back window treatment of '78. So from '79 and up I was "already gone". Until the '82 came out with the cross fire and lack of a standard shift option - then I found a whole new reason to be dissapointed.

But that was then.... nowadays ANY C3 is cooler than most cars on the road. And most important - it's exactly what you wanted. Looks great!

Oh! And I like to trash talk the '68 too - starting with the stock T/A shims.
I've owned one for 30 years and bitch daily at it while it's getting it's underside overhaul.

Default 82 ce

27 years later...I have an 82 CE all original and in unbelievable shape. I LOVE the car the CF runs like a top and let me tell you the old dog still has some bite left under the hood. Drive the car, enjoy it and anyone who says anything negative is just envious and jealous of what you have.

Enjoy!

My 82 gets over 20mpg cruising at 80mph. The best upgrades with the biggest bag for the buck was a ecm chip(prom) and electric dual flex-a-lite fans. both where simple installs with a huge improvement in power!!! Still is a dog after 5000rpm but it sure pulls like a big block getting there!
Many CFI owners let their car sit or let the battery go dead and this put the cars ecm in learning mode. This will make it idle and drive crazy for 20 to 30 minutes of driving.
Another cause of complaints is high mileage CFI car usually need the timing bumped up 3-5 degrees+. Your cars ecm will pull timing out if detonation is picked up by the sensor. Follow these few tips and drive the wheels off it!!!!

Congrats on your "new" Vette. I just got my first a few weeks ago, an 82 as well. I am loving it!!! The first Vette I drove was the 78 Pace Car back when I was 18 I knew that some day I would have one and 26 years later it happened.

In the past few weeks I have many people ask me about my car and everyone I pass is looking. Of course that is not why I bought it, but I know that is what I have done for the past 26 years...

Enjoy your new ride!

I love my 82 also. I bought mine without the crossfire injection and I'm glad it doesn't have it, not because it doesn't work, but because I want to learn how to work on carbs. I think the 80-82 body style looks really good.

I love the chrome bumper C3s (one day... one day), but the 80-82s are drop-dead gorgeous! Out driving today I talked with a guy in a fast and loud newer Mustang GT. I'm sure he could have blown me out of the water on the road, but the difference? In a two-block span I saw 6 newer Mustangs, he only saw 1 1980 C3 Corvette.

With every car, there will be haters and lovers. I have a '79 and sure there are a lot of haters, but what matters is that you like what you have. If it makes you smile then its worth it.

My car's pretty different than most '79 vettes and I LOVE IT. I have alot of "original" people snearing at my car, and you know what I say? Let em. I love my car and thats all that matters.

Here she is:

She definitely sticks out in the herd! Haha. A lot of people don't like the scoop or the sidepipes or the wheels or flared rear end, but I wouldn't take it any other way! Enjoy it if you like it. I'd show the engine, but there's a new 383 going in right now, so its not very show worthy yet.

Here's where we are right now:

The best of luck with your Vette!!!!

Beautiful Car! i know, years later.
Just saw this thread.
Looks like Bright Metallic Blue to me - I have one. 11k orig miles.
Climate controlled drywalled insulated garage.
And I dont drive it enough.
Repaint? Your bumper (s) shade will not match the body if it is an orig paint job.
They made 6,750 some CollEd's.
They made 567 Brite Blues.
Which one would u rather have? Be proud of what you have. I know i am. I parked next to a bunch of the "chromed out aftrmkt junk C5 guys (Which i have one also w/ no chrome but 400rwhp) @ one of the last cruise ins i went to. When I started it up to leave, Cold fast idle was workin properly but was real rich @ the time so it smelled. Got a few comments of "get that stinking thing away from here".
So I did.
Took my old POS blue 82 home to her bedroom & we looked at the NCRS ribbons on the wall.
We saw the Mcllean award plaque.
We poured Heinekin in a frosty glass together.
She looked at me & laughed her *** off at that 04 w/ a chrome intake cover & those hideous tail lite covers.
She knows what she is even if she is "only an 82"

To the OP & all the other 82 guys do be proud, and i agree w/ the others about the naysayers. It is an 82 w/ an auto. Its what you got in 82. Its still a corvette. No it aint a tri-power car, but it's still cool.....

[IMG][/IMG]

That pic is 4? years old & she can use a PC7424 pretty good for a 10 year old now!!

[IMG][/IMG]

PS. How many other Bright Blue Metallic guys out there?
I've only seen 5 others in my life.

Hi Paul B. Long time!!

I have a 74 convertible, and a 98 Pace Car. The people I see on the street love my 98 the snobs on the C5 Forum not so much. So if anyone here talks trash about your 82 to H*ll with them its the avg joe's opinion that counts.

I think you have one nice looking corvette.

I've owned my 96 LT4 for over 5 years and love it, it's a great car. I've always loved the look of the late C3's. I remember the later C3's since I was in my early 20's when they were new. Spring of 2011, I found a beautiful original 60 K mile 82 CE and bought it. I love the look of this car, not quit the ride and power of my C4 but it is a beautiful car. Probably put on 600 miles since last year and she runs great.

Over time, I got to appreciate earlier C3's. When I first met my wife's (to be) uncle in 1980, he took me to his garage and showed me his 69 Vert BB. From that day, I have been after him to sell it to me. I eventually gave up and bought the 82 last year. Last spring, I get call from the 80 years old uncle and he is now ready to sell me the 69. She wasn't cheap but I could not pass on and I bought it. I love that one too. It's the riverside gold with a saddle interior and PO2's with 60 K miles! She is solid and original but she's not perfect. I am planning on lifting the body to clan up and paint the frame, replace all the bushings and the usual stuff that need to be replaced on a 43 year old car.

Storage is becoming expensive and I don't want to undertake such a project in my attached 3 car garage. Plan on building a separate 4 car garage in the next year.

I like just about all Corvettes but I am a little more attracted to C3's since those are the ones I grew up looking at and dreaming of one day being able to afford one. I do like C2's but my wife would like a red/white 59/60! Who knows, one day I may have to make her day!

Love my 82CE. Not quite standard with the chop but I always wanted an 82 Roadster.

Don't worry about the purists - drive it, share your passion and enjoy the ride.

Congrats on joining the "Crossfire" crowd. I'm another proud owner of an '82. I graduated high school in 1982 and when I could finally afford a Corvette, in 1997, I went after an '82. She is trouble free although I do not drive her near enough...I've let day-to-day get in the way of having some quality seat time! Need to make that a resolution for 2013. Enjoy!
