Default 82 Vette trash talk

I have finally purchased my 82 Vette
I love it and am thrilled with the style and feel of the car. It shows great and everyone who sees it does a double take. When I become a full member, I will post the photos of this wonderful machine. I have had every neighbor come by and view and they love it. I even had 4-5 of them ask if it was an 82. When I said yes, they all said it was one of their favorites!
I have one question, to me this is one of the best looking vettes of all time, why does the 82 have such a bad rap and get so many online Jabs?

The people who "jab" at the 82 are just unhappy people. There is nothing like cruising down the road in my 82. It's a head turner, it's fun to drive. It's like steping back in time. Props to you and your 82.

Default 82 v

I have a 71 , and I always liked the chrome bumper cars the best . But as time goes on , and I see such nice 73s thru 82s , I'm liking them more and more . So have a great time with your vette , and don't worry about any negativity . All c3s have their beauty .

It's the cross-fire injection. Some are prone to surging.
You got the Vette you wanted. Be happy. BTW, if I had the cash and room to put it, an '82 CE would be in my garage too.
If your username is any indication to how long you had to wait for your Vette, don't feel bad. Took me about 30 years too.

Thanks guys!
Love my car and yeah, I graduated in 82 and my best friend's dad bought him a 82 vette. I looked at my dad and said "Well?" He said I would earn one someday. I finally did and my dad loves it too! Also, cudos to the tech talk as I already found the answer I needed about the starter not working when the car is very hot. Once again, appreciate the feedback and look forward to enjoying the car!

I owned two 81's which are basically the same as an 82 sans the cross fire,
People who don't understand CF trash it, as far as leaving the engine stock it is a wonderful set up, in the world of hop ups it cant be made to breathe very well, Ahem...pass about 300 HP

I drove an 82 CE a fair amount and found the CF not to miss a beat,
But then I will take any fuel injection over a carb any day

The 80-82 cars mark the end of the Shark bodies, they started with the stunning chrome bumper cars and then after many changed became the refined and eloquent 80-82's

Drive it with pride, when a dolt trashes it understand it's because they are simply clueless,

Cheers,
P.

I agree, I absolutely love my 82! And I graduated in 82 also, it just makes it all the more special. Learn the cross-fire and the set-up. It's not that hard. I strongly suggest getting the 82 corvette shop manual on flee-bay, you cant go wrong. Enjoy your vette and plenty of 82 owners here that can help. Congrats, and MILES OF SMILES

When an inconsiderate **** trash talks anybodys car its usually because they feel threatened.
To put in simple terms, they try to make your car look bad so they can feel better about theirs.
Most of the time they will try to disguise the "jab" by talking about:
1. Resale value, or
2. How many were produced, or
3. Extent of originality.
None of this even really matters.
What matters is how it makes you feel when you drive it.
99.9% of the time you own the car your not trying to sell it anyway.
If you buy a c3 for investment puposes, you would be better off finding something else to put your money into.
The simple fact of the matter is you will get out of it pretty much exactly what you put into it, unless you "go crazy" on it.

If you want a show stopper.....buy one.

If you want a daily driver......buy one.

If you want a project......buy one.

That is the best way to protect your investment.

I have not heard any jabs on the 82 or even my 80 model, but i sure love my 80. While I would love a 78 since it was the year I was born ( yes I know I am a youngen) the 80 practically dropped into my lap from a friend and I could not pass it up.

I love my 82!! The chrome bumpers are nice also, but I'm a product of the 80's and I have always loved the style/front clip.

I did lose the Cross-fire set up, but not because it did not work well, I just wanted more power. Congrats on your car!!!

There's nothing 'wrong' with the '82s. Those folks (like me) who fell in love with the early C3's thought that the peripheral [add-on] body panels on the '79-'82s looked a bit gaudy or 'doctored'. But we found that newer cars had more and more of those kind of body panels. So, initially, they looked 'funny' to us. With time, that stigma has faded...but some folks hold on forever. Everyone has preferences. Just enjoy your car...say "Thanks" for the kind compliments & ignore the negative ones.

Congrats on the '82! I hope you get years and years of enjoyment out of it!

As far as becoming a "full member" to post pictures, I don't think this is true. As soon as you join, you can post pictures, just not directly. They have to be hosted on photobucket or imageshack or the like, and you post the link, they show right up. It took me a little while to figure out the first one, after that, it is a snap.

So, welcome to the forum, and let's see some pics of your new ride!

I like my '82 just fine. I have decided to bead blast and polish the wheels back to shiny, rather than the black they are now. It was a quick fix for some less than perfect wheels at the time. It'll be my winter project. As far as the negative comments, I know my car is rough. But that way I don't feel bad for driving the wheels off it. 3,000 miles this year and counting. Drive it and forget about it. They're lots of fun!

Over the years I've seen both 68's and 82's get dissed, usually by people who don't have a flipping clue about C3's.

I've had mine almost 4 years now and still love the old gal. It is a time machine and a lot of fun to own and drive.

Congrats on your '82'. I've had mine for 5yrs. and really enjoy driving it and get a lot of looks-young and old. I've had very little problem with the CFI, in fact with the whole car. I did wait a little longer to get mine(45yrs). The only thing I've done is change the rear end to a 3:54.

Congratulations on finally getting your Vette. I graduated in 82 as well so these cars were the showroom models that were drooled over when I was in High School. I had an 80 at one time and loved it. All Vettes are different so everyone has a preference.

I think the negative comments are based more on the person delivering than the subject. I am always happy to see someone enjoy, appreciate, and take pride in what they have.

Good for you and Happy Motoring!

We just picked up an 82 CE this week and absolutely love it. Love the way it drives and looks! I graduated in 77 and have always liked this body style. Guess I need to change my avatar to reflect both models, huh.

ALL c3's are beautiful. I do tend to prefer the rear window styling of a pre-78. But they are all nice, one way or the other, and are still the only cars going down the road that even if a person isn't into cars, they know it's a corvette.
