You guys have a lot to be proud of. You did a great job. The fact that you and your son have done this together is a memory that will last a life time. Priceless!
Thanks everyone for the kind words. It was 90% fun. 10% 19 year old giving me static on how to do certain things .
Yep Alan it's a keeper, he'll always have it. He's like me, can't sell or throw away the things we love.
When we us and him put our monies together to buy the 77 for him when he was 16 years old. People thought we were nuts getting a Corvette for a 16 year old. My thinking was, this will teach him a lot as in responsabliies. His hands and his heart went into this little project. He won't act like a goofball when he drives it.
The other good thing is, he has to have a licesned driver riding in the passenger seat until he's 25 years old, (he's 19 now). That's the rule with the Classic insurance we have. So, dear old dad and mom have to go through that yet. I told him, find a 25 year old girlfriend.
You were way ahead of us from the beginning. That car was clean. That was a steal at $4000. Looks great. Now drive it, let the suspension settle and then set the ride height.
Just a few more pictures of the before. This car sat for 6 months for sale. The owner who owns the motel he had a kid wash the car every week or so. That 1 peice top didn't fit too well, the carpet was soaking wet. So that's why we had to change the carpeting on such a low mile car. When the car came home it was hurry up and get the drenched carpeting out, so no before interior pictures. The seats weren't that bad, but worn in the welt areas.
The previous owner bought the car on a whim. He drove it for about a year and then parked it in the motels garage where it sat for 9 years.
For some reason that owner put a different 9 leaf spring on it and that's why it sat even higher than normal. They used nails for cotter pins in the spring links. They did a couple other weirdo things to it too. We put a 7 leaf on it. It'll settle down some. We haven't put the original spare in yet so that'll help with some weight back there.
Back in 1977 a friend of mine bought a new 77 Corvette and what was weird about it was, it sat higher than nornal too, just like Ben's 77. Oh well, the 255 x 60's have plenty of room. Except they do touch the frame a hair of two when lock to lock.

I don't know why these pictues aren't loading in 1 post. I had the 4 of them in up above then seen only 2 loaded. Oh well, here's the other 2.
Not too many things worked on this car. Had to have it flat bedded home. The thing was idling around 2,000 rpm. That was fun getting it off the street and into the back driveway with no brakes, hahahaha.
I love talking about the car as it was a great father and son project. We were always close, the 77 made us best buddies. We had loads of fun with it.
Today his car come out of the garage and my 74 goes back in.
Okay, just 1 more picture to show how high it sat with the 9 leaf they put on. The spring links were not the longer ones and there were no spacers in them. I have to assume a local spring shop made this spring.
Those are 245 x 60's. It was a shame because they were like new, except they were dry rotted between the tread and beads. The car also had brand new brake pads on it. Sitting for 9 years things went sour.

The 9 leaf spring is the standard suspension spring for a 77. The 7 leaf is the optional unit and has a higher spring rate than the 9 leaf. Adding the spare tire won't make a noticeable difference. You will have to play with the bolts at the end of the spring to lower it.
