The headlights are finally done. I had to buy both surrounds as one was cracked and the other was missing the dog ear. I also obviously replaced the actuator boots and seals...other than that I was able to cleanup, reuse, and repaint all of the other parts. On to the pics-
Here's what I started with -
Believe it or not, these all cleaned up nicely.
Boots were ripped -
One seal was good, one torn. Replaced them both...
Cleaned and repainted the actuators -
Cleaned the rings -
Starting to rebuild -
Next is to get the front rotors in place, calipers painted and installed, and front wheels mounted.
What did you use to clean up the hardware? It looks like new!
Great job btw...the chassis looks amazing.
Thanks! I soak the bolts in EvapoRust overnight and then wire brush and clean them with a degreaser. If the bolts are black I spray them with a satin and if they aren't painted I spray them with a clear engine enamel. Upon assembly I use anti-sieze on the threads.
I had painted the windshield frame with Rust Bullet a while back and did not like the way it turned out. I have been procrastinating on getting it finished and the time had come where I could no longer ignore it in order to progress. I removed it all and then used POR-15 which turned out so much better.
Stripped -
POR-15
Chassis Coat
Refurbed the headlight relays
Laid "Peel and Seal" on the firewall
I cleaned and rewrapped all of the wiring and put it in along with the firewall insulation
Attached the rebuilt heater box and put in the refurbed brake and gas pedals and finished the floor and rear compartment
Finally I pressed the new u-joints into the halfshafts and driveshaft
Your car is beautiful man your work looks like what you would expect from a resto shop not a first time frame off guy. It looks this good in pictures I imagine it looks better in person your attention to detail is very cool to see. I wish I had a real garage an the time or money to do what you are doing great work keep posting pics this is an awesome thread
