bummer! just kidding, no, not really kidding. I have one of those (68 L-36) and its a great car but at the bottom of the market value spectrum of chrome bumper bigblocks.
I have a 396 CI 375 HP Camaro engine in my 68 Vette.
Matching square port heads and intake, carb missing.
It presently is drilled to 427 CI when it was renewed about 20 K miles ago.
Casting 3935440
VIN 18N440336
Suffix T0522MQ
Block cast date H25 8 ( is that August 68 ? ).
Intake GM3933163 Aluminum
Heads 3919840 dated B29 8 & D23 8
Cam Solid lifter
I do have a correct early 68 BB 427 CI with matching L71 heads and tripower for my Vette, hence need to find the matching Camaro, preferably a black vert.
Personally, it makes no difference price wise whatsoever to me, as the only numbers that "I" want to match on an engine are the compression and/or leak down test results from each cylinder. But I am not your prospective buyer.
As the guy is an NCRS type what he will pay you is totally subjective based upon his pocketbook and perception of value. None of us here are signing the cheque, he is, so our opinions really don't count.

Nor does your misguided stereotyping of us 'NCRS types'
I am not slagging NCRS folks. There's nothing wrong with them.
Only the person buying the engine can put the final value on it based upon his/her budget and desire. That person may think it is worth $5-25K......whereas I think it is worth zero, and perhaps some others here are in between.
The OP asked for opinions. I am sorry that you didn't like mine......but I did state upfront that I was not interested in writing a cheque for the engine, in order to qualify the validity of my opinion, and appear to have been the only poster to say so. Ergo, my remark.
Frankly the entire question is kinda like a scenario where someone walks into a showroom and says "Geez, the Canadian Black Book says my car is worth $5X,XXX after I and/or other dealers have offered to write a cheque for $45,XXX".........to which you could offer the reply...."well then, why don't you call them and ask the Black Book publisher when and where you can go and pickup your cheque"........
Now, why does the toe tapping icon have 3 eyes ?

The Gentleman who owns the Corvette says the car is modified to the point that the original engine won't increase value that much. It would be nice to have for sentimental reasons, but not much more than that.
Do you have the original heads? From reading his posts on the NCRS board, the only thing left untouched on the 427 is the stamp pad, even that has an added set of numbers, apparently from an earlier rebuild. That block is worth 2 or 3 hundred dollars to anyone else.
Replacing a NOM in your car with another NOM will not devalue it any.
I certainly don't mean to cut down your car, It's beautiful. But having a NOM 427 in it does not make it a 427 Camaro, it's still a 396 car.
Why don't you have him just replace your block, then put all your parts on it.
