My wife gives me a hard time every time we pass another Vette when cruzing in our C3. Her issue is the “the wave”. Sometimes I simply lift a couple of fingers off of the wheel and other times I raise my whole hand because I don’t always think others can see the couple of finger. She is of the impression that there should be an “Official Vette wave”. Like all good wives, she tries to give me a hard time about anything she can find. I told her that I would pose the question to the experts, and thus am posting it here.
I learned it from my older brother, who bought his '66 big block brand new (and still has it). I'm on my 10th vette since the mid 70's, and I just lift my full hand off of the steering wheel from the approach until we pass each other. This is mostly what I see coming the other way too.
And if I don't get it in return, I toss a grenade behind me and hope that it hits the rear deck, where the fuel tank is! Then again, it could be the wife driving that other vette, and I would fully understand.
if a C3 is coming i give a simple , slight wave & always get it back...
if its 1 of them C5, C6 critters , i put my arm out window (which is always down when motoring) & give them a frantic, large wave ...usually wakes them up...lol
Hmmmmmm...I'm thinking two fingers raised to form a V for Vette (you know, the old Peace sign)...and if they don't wave back, just drop into a one finger salute...heheh.
One of my fondest memories as a kid is reading my Dad's Corvette News ... recall an article about the "Corvette Wave" and how my Mom used to give him grief about the wave...
I let one of my Foam Flags do the waving for me! There are about 800 or so left in the box up in the garage attic if anyone is interested in purchasing some of them?

Pete.
Yeah ..apparently those C-6 guys got a secret wave ...but...I guess you have to be in C-6 to see it .....
C3s and older I give a full wave out the window as these owners tend to exhibit the same behavior. C4s and newer tend not to wave but I do the fingers off the steering wheel. If I get a wave from anyone though I wave back.
I usually get so frantic so they see me wave, I smash my fingers into the windshield I stove up my fingers for hours but another Vett goes by and I do it again .I need my windshield to be farther away. but yea wave keep it alive.
If you have royal heritage, you might want to use the "Queen's" wave . Otherwise, just make it obvious enough to see.
[The C5 & 6 owners are too engrossed with their CD music and riding in comfort and quiet with the windows up to even notice there's anyone else on the road.]
I was actually putting gas in my 75 the other day and someone in a C5 beeped their horn and waved as they drove by and I returned a full handed wavy. There are some sociable C5 & C6 drivers out there.
