Default classic Insurance

Why would Hagerty quote me $500+ on Insurance on 1978 pace car valued at $25,000 and Grundy quote me $192 seems odd, Also why does the insurance go down to 200+ at Hagerty when you put in that the car is a 77 at $25,000. It is the same amount shouldnt the quote be the same. It is at other places.

Hi W,
I believe Hagerty has a very good reputation. I think it would be worth it to talk to them to clarify why you're seeing such a $ difference.

Alan

I've had good luck with Grundy. Easy to deal with when I had a claim.

That seems too high. I have my '69 insured through Hagerty for an Agreed Value of $33,000. It has cost $283.00 a year for the past 4 years. I would do as Alan suggested and give them a call. They have always been very helpful with any questions I have had.
OTOH, perhaps the rate is lower because I'm an Old F#%t!

Yes that is way too high. I have mine insured for 50,000 and I think it is 350 a year.

Did you make some kind of mistake in the application that you submitted?

I'm 26, have mine insured for $35K with Hagerty and it's $300/yr. Something had to have been messed up on the app process or w/ the website. I would call.

Hagerty quoted me 35K on my 72 BB convertible and 10K on my 68 mustang hardtop for 350 a year. I really really like the no mileage limit thing too.

Did you get that quote directly from Hagerty or from the agent for your 'family' car insurance? Maybe your agent is wanting to make a few extra buck$ on the transaction. Or, maybe whoever gave you that quote typed in the wrong amount of coverage by mistake. Usually, Hagerty and Grundy premiums are pretty much the same for a particular car.

I just ran the numbers at both Hagerty and Grundy. 1979, $20,000, $0 deductible...Hagerty $350...Grundy $188. Lots of difference there.

Easy answer to the OP question. '78s are twice as valuable and desirable than '77s.

You may want to look at the whole premium. Have a 77' Old's pace car insured with Grundy agreed at $15k value for a $150 anual premium. Add on Michigan's special $150 buck's for covering delinquent driver's, and make it $300 buck's. Have to pay this tax for 3 car's and a bike, to keep them on the road. That's $600 buck's on my calculator, but gotta live somewhere.

I just changed my classic insurance over to the National Corvette Museum Insurance with Adam Boca and was pleased with the rate and service. They also provide options for deductibles and miles driven per year. I also specified that I wanted the option for my 20 & 23 year olds to be able to drive it for pleasure on an occasional weekend or evening. This was no problem.

Adam was great to work with and got the car insured same day!

You haven't stated the details such as liability, medical benefits, uninsured driver coverage, collision, and comprehensive. And the deductibles. For example collision with a $1000 deductible is much cheaper than $250 deductible. I carry $1,000,000 personal liability but can get $2,000,000 for a higher premium. The devil may be in the details.

That was quoted directly from Hagerty sale lady. When I do the numbers on there sight it comes up $456. I was born in 64 25000 value 1978 vette, am I doing something wrong. somebody else do the numbers please and tell me I am doing something wrong.LOL do the same on Grundy website and it gives me 200 something. Have not called Grundy personally yet. My question is isn't 25000 the same to insure on any vehicle through the same company whether it be 1977 or 1978 1979 since you are insuring the 25000 basically .

That is odd. What did the Hagerty sale lady (the Hag) say about it?

2 cars, both insured for $25,000... premium for the 77 is $200 and premium for the 78 is $500+? Makes no sense unless they expect a higher rate of claim with the 78, what with the decals and all. So if both cars got in the same accident maybe the 77 would cost $1000 to repair and paint but the 78 with that special paint job would cost $5000.

I'd call hagerty, thats who i've been using with no problems. Watch out for Grundy, there online quotes are much lower then what they will charge you.

hagerty increased my premium by 20% too. i shopped around a little and did not get a warm fuzzy feeling from some of the others, so I paid it..

depends on my mood at the time whether i will raise a stink about it next time..

spend a day shopping and filling out forms and finding out the little differences to save 40 bucks? life is too short...

there were a couple if little specific differences in the grundy policy, so I stayed with hagerty. merely to keep from spending 3 days researching...

but if 100% higher than the competition? i would call..
