I read in the book I have that some year corvettes you could order a hitch. One of the years there was like only 260 from dealer this way. Why? What could a vette possibly tow? I would think for one it's to low, Also would you buy one with a hitch? I'd be afraid that it was put to good use, I'd prefer a car that did not do any towing.
The C3 Corvette has plenty of engine torque and a good, solid frame. So, what more do you need to tow something? You could tow boats, campers...U-Haul trailers (when the girlfriend/wife kicked you out). All kinds of things...
Why not? They have the horsepower and there cool looking with the hitch, besides why leave the Vette home. I used them for my drag boats and race cars....

My two cents. Purchased my 69 Vette brand new at 25. Put on an after market hitch and towed my motorcycle and so much more. Never had a problem but after four years, got rid of the hitch. Probably one of the most dumbest things I ever did. Never hurt the car but just felt that it just wasn't the right thing to do. Still have the car. It's my favorite toy.
When I was pulling the gas tank out of my car, I found a trailer wiring harness tucked up in the back of the car. I called the previous owner to ask about it. He said that when he moved from California to Washington D.C. he towed a Subaru behind the Vette. Cool.

That is cool...the alternative of the Subaru towing the Corvette is just wrong on so many levels. That would be so embarrassing...all the other Corvettes on the road would be laughing at that car as it was being pulled by a rice burner!
My 62 had one on it and I took it off! It was there when I got the car! I got tired of tearing up my shin on it...
Gm offered the hitch as an over the counter accessory item and I do not believe any were ever factory installed but rather a dealer installed item. I still have the old Accessory Catalogs here but I'm not sure about what years this was offered. I used to have a few of the hitch's somewhere.
I like the hitch on there, if only they had a Reese design back then... Easier on the shin's.
I have a receiver type hitch on my '77...I positioned it behind the License Plate assembly...it is spring loaded, came off of a Chevy that had the fuel tank neck behind it. Just put the hitch in that matches the trailer...and off we go, with the '77 Baja Runabout Boat. Or to the hardware store or camping with the '44 utility trailer. A person would never know by looking, that it has one.

Factory installed RPO ZN1 on '77- '81. Not all that popular as compared to the over the counter stuff.
