Default Options info '68

I've looked all over the net for the location of the options tag on a '68. I've found all the option codes online just can't find the tag on the car.

I'm new to C3's, sorry.

Thanks for helping an old guy.

No such thing. Without original documentation, your are S-O-L. The factory never kept build records either. Nice, huh?

That's kinda what I thought. I'm looking at a car that could have been a big block at one time. Any tipoffs as what to look for?

If it's a small block, locate the partial VIN# on the front pad right above the water pump. If it matches your cars Vin, then it's an original SB.

The engine isn't original so no help there.

I'll be under it tomorrow so I'll take a look.

Thanks for the help.

The closest you'll get to an options tag is a sheet of paper stuck to the top of the gas tank. Occasionally they're still in readable shape.

A couple of other items may suggest it was a big block. The radiator was 27 1/2 wide at the core. They had a rear sway bar and caps retaining the u-joints on the differential rather than u-bolts. Any of this could have been changed, no guarantee it's original.

Hi,
I've always thought that in the 68 model year the only cars with the 7 leaf springs were cars equiped with the optional F-41 suspension. I believe that both sb and bb cars had 9 leaf springs as standard equipment.
Regards,
Alan

All BB had 9 leafs. BB and SB had 7 leafs if F41 was ordered. 9 or 7 leafs had nothing to do with the engine size.

What about the 'yellow' and 'red' line points on the tachometer? Were those values unique for big block engines? If so, that could help the poster determine what the car was originally built with.

I 'believe only the 68 BB as OE had 2 1/2 exhaust, and all the others are 2"...

Hi

If there is only 1 fuel line ( no return line ), then it was a BB as well.
Only BB run the Holleys.

Except for the 390 HP BB version, had 2 fuel lines.

As far as I know, no SB had only 1 fuel line.

OK, so I bought it. It's not a BB car and never was darn it. But I think it has potential of being a pretty nice car without a lot of work.

Looks nice! post some more pics. Looks like you got one of those rare coupes! (Check the numbers, coupes are relatively rare for 68)
