hey guys, i wanted to ask your opinion of my current situation. I currently have my 73 for sale, its a project car and i planned to do a frame off resto on the car. Im not sure if i want to sell this tho. Before i put it up for sale, i was gonna do a new paint job, non original color and build the 350 up to 383. I had/still have big plans for the car.
Now, i have found a guy that is selling a 68 corvette. Its got a 327, matching numbers(the 73 is also matching numbers), it just needs some work done on it. Of course it is more money to buy than my 1973.
So i am wondering should i sell my 1973 and buy the 68 or just build the 73 up. All opinions are welcome. Thanks
What do you want in the end? Were you originally planing to sell the 73 for an earlier vette, or did this just fall in your lap? If your plan was to buy an earlier year, than this might work for you.

I bought the 73 when i really had no knowledge of the cars. As i got to know more about c3's i really began to like the 68 and 69 year models. And when i saw a 68 pop up in my local craigslist, i went and looked. I really like that car too.
If you plan on going thru all the money and labor doing a frame off restoration to a matching numbers car, then why would you even consider changing the paint color and stroking the engine? Not a wise choice for how to spend your money, in my opinion. Changing the target of your affections to a '68 will only get you in deeper. Sounds to me like you need to re-think your end goal. If you don't care about resale value and want to modify a car to suit your own tastes, then go for it. Whatever makes you happy.
Let's see...you have a 'project car' that isn't put together--and you want to sell it [at a significant loss in value because it is in pieces] so that you can buy another Corvette [which costs more] that you still have to do a lot of work on.?? {What's wrong with this picture?}
You will get more value for your '73 if you put it back together and get it running--whether it has new paint or not. BUT, if you do a lot of work and spend a lot of money putting it back together, you still won't get any more for it than any other nicely put together '73. So don't overdo it for no good reason. If you want to sell it, assemble it and make it look nice..but don't spend a lot on it.
If it were me, I would put it together like I wanted to and use it. The '73 is a nice car and you will get lots of enjoyment out of it...once you put it together.

Very well stated !!!
P.S / it's also much cheaper to mess around with 73 parts vs 68's ..........
Hi VNJ,
I guess your definition of 'restoration' has some impact on which car you put your dollars and effort.
FR asked the same thing in a different way.
