Or like you said-just wore out.
Hope all goes well for you
Let me know what comes out of it
Its possible that it was removed, when placing it back how would you know at what degree to turn it to get it right.? I just took it out for a ride. Was worried that under load she might ping or somthing, and I won't have any time tomm morning to change anything before I leave. WOW, What a diff. she acts like a corvette now. I can actually spin the damn tires. When going 45mph and I hit the gas, she takes off!! I think that the distr. may be off a tooth like you sugg. Anyways tomm after the exhuast I will actually take the shield off and take the cap off and get a first solid good look.

Found my problem! Someone took the Distr. out at some point, and when installing it they did not have the # 1 piston TDC. Next week on my next days off I will tackle this. The car is running alot stronger w/ the Distr. maxed and the duals on. She should really kick it up a notch when the timing is done correctly.

Either your advance weights/mechanism is stuck (inside of dist cap), or the whole distributor needs to be re-clocked one gear tooth (drive gear at bottom end of distributor). That is not a difficult task, but does require some amount of knowledge to do correctly. Check out the mechanical advance mechanism inside the distributor first. If that is sticky, lube it up with white lithium grease under the weights and make sure the mechanism is free to make the advance adjustment. If that doesn't change anything, you will need to rotate the distributor one gear tooth so that you have more rotation range on the distributor movement.

Thanks, that is exactlly what I had planned to do next week. As for the Distr. I would think that all that needs to be done is take the # 1 spark plug out, turn engine untill piston is at top dead center, then place distr. back in. Am I missing anything?

also just as easy to use a piece of white chalk. you'd be surprised how long it will last even on the front of the engine exposed to everything like that.

Honestly,if you want to take distributor out,it's best to take off drivers side valve cover, make sure both valves are closed while balancer is on the 0 mark, try to keep the vac advance half way through travel swing when lowering-otherwise checking piston height could make 180 off, meaning rotor is pointing opposite of #1
Just try putting on 0 mark, carefully lift dist. slowly so you can feel the gear spin, skip 1 tooth, then line up with cap-it works sometimes
Also, make sure inside weights are free and moving evenly,if any egging on posts causing slop,I would replace-timing won't be reliable

Thanks, I ordered new springs, they come w/ the weights and a adjustable vacuum. I have all of "Lars" paper work copied.
