I was a Barrett Jackson this week and I saw a couple of C2's go through that were listed as period correct motor and they said that it was a re-stamp and NCRS Top Flight. Those cars brought over $100,000. That just amazed me that NCRS would judge them that high, I guess that is why there are more L71, L88 cars then were ever produced. I guess small block cars are going to be rare. My L71 might bring more money parting it out. I could sell the tank sticker and all documents!!! because it will never bring that kind of money.

I love to watch BJ Auctions and actually went to the W. Palm auction a few years ago. Unfortunately even a Georgia redneck like myself knows more about collectible cars than the announcer at Barrett Jackson. I have come to think of them as the Barnum & Bailey of collectible cars.
Craig Jackson once said that GM only made THREE L88 Corvettes in 1969 and today there only FIVE accounted for!

i've also been to the palm beach auction and it is like a three ring circus directed and orchestrated for maximum entertainment value nothing more. i believe that barrett jackson has done more to ruin the collector car hobby than any single other operation (and that includes the various Kruse brothers legal problems over the years).
Did you see lot 1575 today? White 68 L68 with red interior. Looked "ok"... all I could see under the hood was a black wiper can, and it had an L-88 hood Advertised as 15k original miles, but who the heck knows?? $52k seemed a bit rich.
NCRS only cares that the car LOOKS correct...not that it really is. A subtle nuance that many are confused about. Engine block restamps are fine with NCRS, as long as the right stamps are used and in the right format. They are a "Restoration" society, you know.

Very important distinction! Actually quite smart by the NCRS. Imagine the legal troubles they would expose themselves to if they certified a car was original instead of appearing original.

Not quite. A restamp gets a full deduct if detected.

Exactly- there's no part of the judging that authenticates the car.
