I've got a 72 Ontario Orange convertible w/both tops, deluxe interior, base 350, 4sp, no air that I'm just about finished w/freshening up. New paint and interior. I won't replace all of the interior b/c a lot of it is still in good shape. Maybe just a little dye here and there. New carpet and a few replacement trim pieces. The car's all original, no rust, a very solid car w/ 67,000 mi. The only thing I'm doing to the car that departs from originality is installing steeroids.
I'm insurance shopping and they ask what the value is. I don't really know what's fair, so I just given $30,000 for the quote. Am I in the ball park? Rates quotes have generally been under $300/yr.
I pay 325/yr for a 45K agreed value for my new 69. My estimate on 30K would be 225/yr?
Hagg ins went up too high and was quoted at well over 400/yr for the exact coverage. Guess from all the TV ads and sponsoring the BJ auction etc etc.. argh.

Thanks. I was wondering tho if $30,000 is fair or if I'm over or under estimating the potential value.
For a convertible car in that good condition, $40K insurance value is reasonable. Just how much would it cost to get an exact replacement of your car...in the same condition...without you doing any work. At least $40K. DO NOT BUY STANDARD CAR INSURANCE...buy collector car insurance ONLY. Hagerty and Grundy would be my options for that car.

nice car. i agree 30k is way too low. go at least 40k. i have my 72 BB coupe insured with hagerty for 40k. im going to check grundys price when mine expires. NUTSY.
I just insured my 72 convertible with Grundy @ $28,000 for $182.00 per year. I have 2 other cars on the policy also. A 2000 convertible and a 79 coupe.
I think you value it for what you can afford to pay for, and what the insurance company will agree with, that way if you do have a total loss you can get something as nice if not nicer. You have a nice car for sure
I just re insured my 69 coupe 350/350 4speed, with AAA with and agreed $ 35,000 I have two other cars and my home with them $147 year, last year it was $187, it dropped forty bucks when I added my Motor home, have had AAA for years. In the last 10 years I have had a bathroom flood out they payed everything in a timely manner,8 years ago my garage was riped off for over $25.000 worth of tools, they payed the total also in a timely manner, cant beat that, I know some have had problems with AAA but They have been good to me, Might want to check there prices, Oh they will check your credit for collector car ins.
