I do not know where the term "vert" originated, but I don't like it and don't use it.

It may have stemmed from folks who cannot spell convertible.

It did not originate with convertible owners.

Refers to Corvette ConVERTibles. I do not use that term.....ever. I've only heard it here and I've owned a 68 Convertible since 1985 (the same one).

"vert" is easier to type....that's about it.

We all type "SB" for 'small block', too. But no one says "S" "B" when they speak....

I've been known to say SOB...frequently on some occasions.

It's neither. It's a Corvette convertible.

Hi,
Calling them 'roadsters' bothers me too... but I'm old enough to have almost owned a roadster as a first car. MG TF 1500.
Regards,
Alan

seems to me that it came about by some poster being about as lazy as possible. (BTW i own an 04 CE convertible, lol in addition to my 78). i believe "roadster" came about as the way in which they were advertised in the early going (not just corvettes, but all "open" cars with 2 doors. most of the cars of the 20's and 30's (convertibles) were always referred to as roadsters long before the term convertible came into use. back then you owned a coupe, sedan or a roadster (i guess i'm showing my age, lol even though i'm not old enough to have experienced most of that first hand, lol).

Yes, I'll take roadster over vert. I still like solid axles and midyear terminology over the C stuff as well, but I understand it with all the generations of Corvette now.

Mine was a 1962 MGA 1600 MkII. Last of the "A" series. The windows were called side curtains.

hey, i remmeber those first hand, lol. those damn side curtains never sealed and leaked cold air in the winter and always leaked water in the rain. owning a british sports car back ten took a lot of guts and a thick skin to say the least.

'Vert has nothing to do with Vette.

As has been said, I'm guessing people who can't spell "convertible" use it.

It's a very newbie-sounding term and actually more popular on this forum than anywhere else. I've never heard anyone who has been around Corvettes at all use it in actual conversation, fortunately.

What ever happened to the terms "drop top" or "rag top?" I guess today convertibles could also be called "transformers."
