The chrome on RH front grille is peeling badly. Are there any reasonably priced suppliers for replacement?

How much should it cost to have it re-chromed?

If it's a 70-72 grill get ready to open your wallet real wide. The cheapest I found for a replacement was $400 on ebay.

Bummer. Saw them online for $600! Is rechroming an option?

Hi mlm,
Yes, replating is a possibility.
I suggest you call Librandi in Middletown, Pa. (near Harrisburg).
They do beautiful work; not cheap, but reasonable.
Regards,
Alan

This is the third post on pretty much the same subject!

Your 1970 front grill piece is an aluminum alloy. There are not many chrome shops that can replate aluminum. My chrome plater did strip my left and right grill pieces for my 1970. He did it electrolytically. He then polished the aluminum to a bright surface appearance. He did not have the capability to chrome plate aluminum.

To chrome plate aluminum, a electrically conductive anodize coating is applied. Then the traditional nickel and chrome plating functions can be followed. The key is the electrically conductive anodize coating. Normal anodize coatings are not electrically conductive. Your plater must know how to do the conductive anodize coating.
