Default Alignment

Can you get a four wheel alignment done if the engine is not in it?

Yes, sure. But you'll need to re-do it when the car is back together.

You need the vehicle complete to align.

Hi,
A very well known restorer wanted to do the alignment before the body was on the chassis because that's the way St.Louis did it.
He took the chassis to the shop and it was chained to the alignment machine and tightened down to the ride height specifications; and then the alignment was done.
There are even some pictures of it in his book.
?!?!
Regards,
Alan

Until I read through the CF papers on how to perform your own alignment, I thought only shops equipped with a trained tech, the alignment pit and associated gear could perform.

Like Gordon and dannyman said, reaching the proper ride height is usually achieved with the cars weight added all in.

Thanks for the tip, Alan. For those who do a body off, having the chassis preset would be terribly convenient upon reassembly. One day, I'll try that.
