Default Ignition shield question

I am debating on installing all the shields. I have looked at numerous NCRS cars and others and never have seen all the shields installed. Manifold, sparkplugs, and plug wires etc.
Were all these installed from the factory in 70 or were they dealer installed dress up kits. I can honestly say that I have seen hundreds of vettes in person and have never seen the complete kit installed.
Anybody here run the complete kit and any photos?

Not all years required all of the shielding. You can look at some of the vendor sales books and figure out what parts were assembled to which years. My '71 SB has all of the factory assembled pieces on it. Several folks have the same or have added it themselves.

The complete shielding installed correctly is a royal PITA to install and then work around later on.
I'll see if I can find some pics of a 70 I work on.

edit-sorry the pics don't show the spark shields very well,(I'm sure you've seen plenty of dist covers)

If your car is a radio delete, they did not install any shielding

Hi mn,
The NCRS cars I see often have all the heat and ignition shields installed.
Here's a link to 2 good pictures of small block heat and ignition shielding. (Duke 94).
This engine doesn't have the front ignition shielding since those were discontinued in 70 my.
If you have some sb questions I'll be happy to try and answer them.
Regards,
Alan

If you are not concerned about 'correctness" you may not need all the shielding on the car. A modern HEI ignition system with something like MSD 8.5mm spiral wound spark plug wires may negate the need for all the shielding. The spark plugs and wires are close to the exhaust manifold and the shielding above the plugs offers some heat protection. You could also install the thermal boots over the spark plug wires to prevent burning through. You will probably still have some alternator wine that can be solved with a capacitor to ground.

Keep the shielding on the starter motor as it is susceptible to overheating and difficult cranking.

As Roger said, when it's time to work in the engine bay it's a PITA to take it off and put it back on. I have all the shielding for my '73 but most of it is in a box in the garage.
