Anybody Know Window Trim???
I have these four parts off of my 1971 "Sparty" and I am interested if anyone knows the following:
1) What are the names of these four parts?
2) Can't seem to locate them in my 71 AIM, any hints where I might look?
3) Are there any reproduction or NOS parts that could replace mine, these are in a little rougher shape than I would like to use.
4) Anyone know a good source for NOS or Reproduction parts of this nature?
5) Any idea which years can be used in a substitution of these parts should I find decent ones from another year?
I hope someone out there can help and thank you in advance.

Hi David. I can't help you with identifying these, but from your photos they appear not to be badly damaged, just weathered and needing a bit of TLC. I bet your chrome shop could restore these for you, or know a specialist who could massage them back to near new. If you cannot locate a shop to polish those for you, contact me via PM and I'll ask some friends who have recently completed restorations who they used to spiff their stainless up. There are no ready sources for NOS trim for Hudson Super Wasps or the like..

My brother in law Jeff sent a lot of his 67 Stainless trim off to a shop and they restored it to like new. I don't have the info but can get the shop that did it if you need and can't find replacements. They looks like they just need to be restored

I could be wrong, but those look like the door glass weatherstrip stainless steel pieces (right/left; front/rear). You can easily replace the weatherstrip seal material; but finding good stainless hardware is not so easy. If they are not bent up or dinged up on the visible surfaces, you should probably take them to a chrome or metalwork shop and have them polished/buffed, then reuse them....with new weatherstripping, of course.

1) The first 2 are the left and right windshield reveal moldings. The other 2 are the left and right "A" pillar weatherstrip retainers.
2) I don't have any of my AIM's in the house, but they'd be with the windshield installation, and/or maybe exterior trim area?
3) They are not currently being repro-ed, that I'm aware of. There could be NOS ones out there, you'll just have to search. I use to have some NOS ones, I know the reveal moldings are gone, but I may still have some weatherstrip retainers. I can check when I get to work tomorrow, and PM you if I do.
4) See #3. They can be restored/straightened/polished. There are 2 shops here in NJ that I know of, that do good work on stainless trim. Neither are more than an hour to two from Easton. I can PM you their contact info tomorrow morning.
5) The outer windshield moldings are the same for 68-72 Corvettes. The bottom of the moldings are different on 73 and later moldings. The retainers are the same for 68-72 for sure, and I think may be the same all the way up to 78. I'll have to check a Parts Book to confirm this.

As other's stated, the ones with the rubber coated are windshield A-pillar WS retainers.
The longer pieces look like they are for the T-Top side WS retainers, where the window meets the T-top. The door glass rear WS retainers are much shorter.

Hi,
I agree with gb.
I don't believe those pieces are being reproduced.
They're easy to straighten, un-ding, and polish though, because there is access to both sides of all the pieces.
The AIM installation instructions are in UPC 1, Sheet F 10.
They can only be installed after the windshield is in place. The glass needs to be pre-fitted though to ensure that the ss trim will fit snug against it. This requires that the glass be spaced a certain distance from the windshield frame.
Details!
Regards,
Alan

Back to the Window Trim
I am finishing the clean up and polishing of my window trim and have it looking great only to realize that I didn't remove them, so I cannot figure out which screws to use to put them back on the car. I have the AIM and found the right sheets after guidance from Alan and you all but now what, it shows just the top and bottom screw locations, not the middle. Is this a riveted part verus screw parts one to the other?
Any help will be, as always, appreciated.
Thank you,
David Howard

Okay, a little bit of research and I found this in my AIM. Great help, not completely out of the woods yet, but great help. I need to figure out what the two compounds are that they refer to here in the drawing, that being, 184 Sealing Compound and 157 Cement. Any clues you can provide on that sourcing would be appreciated.
I am posting a copy of the page from my 71 AIM. I am not trying to infringe on any copyright data, just circling the areas I am speaking of for clarification. Thank you and best regards,
David Howard

Can't help you with the correct size David, sorry. I just bought a set and they are self tapping screws (I'm used to metric )
Do get the correct ones and tap them in without the moldings to see,if they don't touch the windshield as it will crack and it's not a nice feeling, ask me how I know

I send my stainless to Glass Works, the guys that restore the hardtops. My stainless looked brand new when I got them back. They did all the stainless on my car and it made the car look as if it were really a new car just like it was 74 all over again. The car ended up making the front cover of the premeir issue of Corvette Milestone and I do not doubt it was because how good the stainless looked against the yellow paint, the car looked like it was brand new and even the photographer was asking about it. I can't say enough about Matthew and his great company they did an awesome job on it for me.

Details, details, details...
Haven't even started to disassemble mine yet - SUCH a ling way to go!
Just have to remember to photograph and document EVERYTHING so I can get it all back together years later.
Great Job!
