Typically, in a situation like that, or if someone parks way to close, (those lines are painted there for a reason) what I do is very quickly reach over and mis-adjust one of there mirrors. Then drive away. They gave me a minor annoyance, I gave them one back. Even Steven.

you have to be careful that you don't park too far out. A lot of those stores make their employees park out there, and you know they don't care. I had a BB "tech" look at my Alpine that I had installed myself. 3 amps, a crossover, 4 speakers, and a DVC sub. After hitting my new deck with his hand he said, "I don't know.. I can't afford this fancy crap"
That picture of the black C6 reminds me of a time a van did the same thing to me. This was 20 yrs ago, in my younger days. Well, I was able to get into my car on the passenger side. Moved it then proceeded to kick the heck out his door. I bet he wondered how his passenger side door got dented so badly. Then again, maybe not.
Or you come outside to find a shopping cart against your car! Why because some fat lazy bastard thought he/she was better than everyone else and didn't need to put it in the proper place.
Those of you that say it's just a car, really? It's called respect of other peoples property, something my parents tought me at a young age.
yes its just a car but if i want it torn up i will do it .stay away from my car.
i have more problems with rocks from the road than people in parking lots. maybe a letter in the suggestion box at Best Buy for Corvette parking only spots
It is just a car. I daily driver my car and like it best when I can get a parking spot between two nice cars. I believe that is what the MB driver was doing.
As to taking up TWO spots (diagonal parking, etc) not a good idea IMO. At our hotel during a major Corvette event, the lot was very full (95% of the cars were Corvettes) and some joker was diagonal parking taking up two spots. Some folks questioned why this guys Corvette was better than their Corvette, and the result got ugly. Hotel staff STILL remind folks to only use ONE parking spot during check-in.
My personal favorite is the guys that trailer their car then take up 6 prime parking spaces with their pickup and rig. (That can get ugly as well.)
To answer your question, some people do that just to intentionally tick you off, but others - and this is a tough call from the picture - do it to help you out by protecting your car. Looks like he left a pretty decent gap between the cars, so I wouldn't necessarily interpret his parking there as a hostile act.
And we all know they are "just cars" but some people invest a tremendous amount of work (and $$$) and emotional energy in these inanimate objects and don't appreciate others taking that for granted.
I drove my Vette into work this weekend, I was only going to be in the office 30 mins. I parked well out and away from everyone. I come out and find a freaking jackass had parked so close to me he was a foot over the white line and his SUVs bumper was actually over top the nose of my Vette. I'm sorry, but "it's just a car" or " that's why I have insurance" is not what I was thinking at the time. I was pissed to say the least.
you had the right idea ... tho i will generally cuddle up to the curb ... leaving lots of room on the other side .... my wife calls it "Corvette Parking" ...
tho i've noticed it starting to get more difficult getting out of the car if the curb's on my side ...
i guess the issue of "it just a car" just seems right .... and if it's perfect and you want to keep that way .. leave it in the garage ... if you want to enjoy it ... it will get a ding or two along the way ... no matter how careful we are. Though I will admit I do get a little excited when stupid shows up ...
my brother has a 24 roadster he shows ... like all the time ... and he drives it to every show ... but he also pulls the body 3 or 4 times a year to touch up the frame and suspension ... and does his own paint touch ups ...
but you won't catch him trailering his hot rod anywhere ... even the far away shows ....
To me the "just a car" comment doesnt mean that you cant get upset about people parking too close to your car, door dinging your car or other events, its natural to get upset IMO. In my mind the "Just a car" comment simply means, this is part of the business of driving a car, it is to be expected at some point, you live with it and move on, it doesnt mean you have to like it.
Driving a car with the expectation that door dings will not occur and that everyone else on the road will all of sudden be capable of parking their cars in the space provided and be model citizens respecting everyone elses property, is panglossian at best and lunacy at worst.
That "just a car" really gets under my skin. If it's just a car then why not drive a ford tempo instead of Americas only sports car, a car with it's own national holiday, a car with the lineage that Corvette does. Just A Car --- NOT !
