Geeze, good eye Mike!
My comments were based on the conversation I had with the owner at the time.

I'm pretty sure the decal is a factory decal...
Yes, that's a factory decal.

Can you point me to your source of info claiming that the A/C compressor uses 18HP?

Mike,

I've looked closely but...? What gives that water pump away as a converted truck unit?

The 'outsie' plug on top of the pump in the bypass port. Corvettes had 'insie' plugs like this.

The only other vehicles that used this casting number pump were light trucks.

Most replacement pumps from auto parts stores are converted truck pumps. Nothing wrong with them except from a judging standpoint.

I agree with Mike. AC compressors do not use horsepower; they are only accessories requiring a belt to drive them.

I will agree your Sanden is possibly more efficient than the old GM A6, but have you actually measured your horsepower "gain' from the Sanden?

a/c compressor do not "use" horsepower? Afraid I'm going to disagree with that. When you engage the clutch on the a/c compressor - please note that the rpm goes down, as it takes power (HP) to turn that compressor.

I would agree that (for instance) "alternators" do not use horsepower - they just require a belt to turn them.

Perhaps 'consumes' is a better word than 'uses', but each engine accessory consumes a certain amount of power to perform it's task including alternators.

I'd still like to see the source of your info on the 18 HP A/C compressor.

Hi u,
I enjoyed your interior picture too.
I notice the fit of the e-brake console, shifter console, and center gauge cluster bezel looks VERY nice. Are they original parts?
NO! NEVER done!
I put a part, (I'm ashamed to say what), on the car this afternoon that was packed in newspaper dated May 1990.
Regards,
Alan

Alan,
The Top Dash, Shifter Console and the Parking Brake Console are all re-productions. It was a lot of "fun" getting a close fit.

I'm not going to do another C3 restoration. I'm too old for this...
