hey my wiper door will not open fast it getting hong up on the wipers .. you have to pull up on the center of the wiper door ,,, wipers and all the other stuff work ,,, is there a thing that pops the door up or what
first off we assume your car and vacuum system are in proper working condition..
yes a vacuum actuator opens and closes the wiper door,
that actuator is controlled by a pilot vacuum valve, it your door is slow/weak,
either the actuator is worn out, or the most likely cause is binding from the door,
and pivot/bearings and 40 years worth of crud. with the actuator dissconnected,
you should be able to move the wiper door by hand, find the actuator,
on the passanger side on the firewall.
if not working smoothly,
Dissassemble clean and lube all pivot points for the door assemble,
when everything is working good that door pops open and close real quick.
Hi sb,
Are your wipers starting before the wiper door has a chance to open completely?
There is a safety switch assembly just to the right of the distributor mounted on the fire wall. It's purpose is to delay the electrical signal to the wiper motor until the wiper door is completely open.
Perhaps your switch may need some adjustment.

Hi S,
I also replied in your other thread.
I'd like to suggest that if you're going to work on your car you think about buying the AIM, (ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTION MANUAL), it was used on the production line in St. Louis; the GM 1970 CHASSIS SERVICE MANUAL, it was used at the dealership's service department; and a headlight/wiper trouble shooting guide.
If you don't have these three helpers you could well be buying parts you don't need.
Good Luck!

Alan
1 problem at a time.
If your wipers get hung up on the door, because not fully open.
First wipers should not start until door is fully open,
this is interlocked thru the Door open switch. Adjust as needed.
Alan's picture shows the switch.
if the door fails to open all the way, either mech. binding, or bad actuator or wiper replay.
you need to test each item, not just replace.
ok here we are just put on the new relay and the new actuator too now the actuator is not ajust right i just put it on i dont know how to ajust it but this is what i got now start the car the wiper door goes up and stays up ,, and the other day i did try to mess with the one switch in the pic so what do i do now may i say my head lights work bad to the bone put new relays on them and they are fast up fast down love it
