Had a fun '64 Coupe 327 headers, etc., 4 speed Cragar's wide rear tires. My wife, at the time, went and got pregnant! She said that the '64 was too rough a ride. No sweat! I bought a brand new 1976 Mahogany/Black Leather that even had air conditioning and automatic. She seemed to like that!
Doctors had just told my wife and I we would never have children of our own. So I thought I'd buy a sports car. Always liked Corvettes.
34 years later, I have two lovely daughters, a wonderful grand child and my second daughter is getting married in two months....and I still have the 73 convertible. Life is good.

Just back from Nam I had to have this 68 L88...... spent more time cleaning fouled plugs than driving but it is still the fastest car I've owned to date!
Before I met my current husband he and his former wife owned a 63 and a 75. She kept the 63 he kept the 75. He had the 75 when we met but sold it before we married. We attend car shows and cruise ins but didn't own a Classic. Our 73 has brought us great pleasure and is currently getting a new custom paint.I have always loved cars hence the name Vette Fetish.
My father in law was the previous owner of mine. I drove it on my wedding day. One day he said he was going to sell it and I said I was interested. I think he was tired of it. We agreed on a good price and I have not been sorry since. It is nice to keep it in the family.

I always heard that a Corvette can be an aphrodisiac.

I have owned solid axles and midyears since 1971 and really didn't like the 3rd generation Corvettes. That changed about 6 years ago. The styling just grew on me. I set out to find a 68 or 69 427. Found a nice, original, Lemans Blue 68 427/390 coupe. I enjoy this car every bit as much as the older ones. Great lines and the big block makes nice low end torque.
My first C3 is the '81 I have now, bought it in Sept. 2010. As said already, I think the C3 styling even by today's standards is beautiful and outrageous, and the view from the drivers seat with the fender arches framing your field vision is just awesome. I have always liked the 71 and 72's as well as the 80 - 82's. The chrome bumper cars are out of my price range and the early 80's cars do not have anything to brag about from a performance standpoint. I knew if I got one a major engine upgrade would be needed for me to be happy with it. When I found my '81, an original 4spd car with a T-5 5spd swapped in along with a mild head and cam package, topped off with Edelbrock EFI, I knew it was the C3 for me. Been loving it ever since!
For me it is the corvette that I grew up with. I used to walk past a neighbors house on the way to high school. 2 brothers owned light blue chrome bumper vettes. I loved the body lines. I darn near bought a brand new 82, but insurance was as much as my car payment. I had a highly modded camaro back then that got me in a little trouble with the law.
So yrs later I bought my 1st corvette. A 92. I still love it, but not what I really wanted. So after much looking, I bought my Elkhart green 72 coupe. It needed restoration as it has sat for 17 yrs here in AZ & CA.
More importantly, I paid cash for the all numbers matching car.
I bought it in May this yr. The original engine is being stroked. Corvettes should not have wimpy engines. Should be done in 2 wks. The frame and 28 of it's closest parts were dropped off for powder coat last week. Assembly will then begin. My goal is to drive it this winter, uh yeah, I live in the Phoenix basin. Winter is perfect for cruising.
In 1975 I was 15 and my Brother bought a '74. When he would bring it over he was nice enough to let me wash it for him. It was the 1st Vette I ever had a ride in and I was hooked. Took me 34 years but I finally got mine it is also a '74.
Here is a picture taken in the Spring of '75 of my Brother and my now ex Sister in Law. Notice the Stroh's T-Shirt? Miss that beer.
Great stories. I have always wanted a vette. I don't know if they do/did this in the states, but on Friday/Sat. nites in B.C. we would "pull Mainers". Which is cruzin' up and back around the main street showing off and doing the odd burnout. We would find out where the parties were and by 10:00 we would be on our way. In Ontario you wouldn't dare go out on the main drag in your moma's car. The vette's were the best! I had just enough money in 1981 to buy a 75, but no money for insurance, so I bought a dodge instead...gasp... stupid me. Well last fall I found a 79, and husband has it on the hoist. Rear suspension is done. Cleaned and painted. Very nice. White leather interior, carpet all ready to go in. This fall the engine will get a rebuild. This spring I will never be home. Oh, a stock tip for you all, my husband and I decided forget buying gold at $1,785.00. We will keep buying vettes.
I had $20,000 saved up and was planning on getting plastic surgery with it. I went for a consultation and had a plan laid out but later emails to the clinic went unanswered and I started having second thoughts and thinking with $20k I could buy one of those cars I had dreamed about since I was 16. I decided I was pretty enough and decided I'd start looking for my dream car.
I couldn't make up my mind at first and was considering 59,60, and 67 Impalas, 71 Mustang, 69 Charger and 68/69 or 78/79 Corvette. I started looking at 67 Impalas and fairly quickly decided it wasn't extremely good looking like the other cars. I looked into 59 and 60 Impalas but there were very few of those for sale and those that were were either out of my price range or needing a lot of work. I looked at 71 Mustangs but they were really pricey and after a lot of thought decided the best looking cars on my list were the 69 Charger and the 68/69/78/79 Corvette. I settled on the 69 Charger and same problem appeared as with the 59/60 Impalas - very few around and they were either very expensive or really beat up. I found a 69 Charger I was interested in on Ebay but when it eventually went for $26,000 I figured a nice charger was too much and I wasn't into a multi-year restoration like I've been doing on my 81 Eagle.
So, it was on to the Corvettes. Lots for sale, that made it easy. I found a number of 68/69 Corvettes that appealled to me for a good price but the more I looked at the interiors of those cars the I thought "Yuck!". I then decided it had to be a 78 or 79 Corvette and after a few months more found a 79 in extremely good condition with all the features I wanted and I bought it.
Every now and then I see a 69 Charger on TV or the internet and I think, "Maybe if I'd have looked harder for a longer period of time..." but the Corvette has grown on me after a number of months of mild buyer's remorse I'm reasonably happy with it. I guess the thing I like the best about it is that rust is a lot less of an issue than it would have been with any of the other cars.
Inherited mine from my father, he basically didn't take very good care of it and I've been spending this past year repairing it and cleaning it up.
The cars been there my whole life, I remember being 6 or so and climbing into it while it was sitting in our garage thinking it was the coolest most amazing thing ever. I never thought I may one day get to drive it.
Well 18 rolled around and I Got my license and got behind the wheel. It was my first standard so I must have killed it 30 times in the first week. Had to have looked like a perfect idiot kid demolishing his dad's car haha, well, she made it.
Six months later, a few grand, and plenty of help from this forum shes in great shape and is driven every day getting all the big thumbs up and smiles :r ock::yesno d:
