Dad was thinning out his collection, always thought the 1980 was the coolest and bought it. And with a lot of help from this forum, I am one happy C3 owner
It was in 1982 . I was just getting out of high school.
The style and power of a blue / blue 69 350/350 coupe was the ultimate car for me and I still love them today.
I've loved Corvettes since I was old enough to know what a car was. Being a 71 model myself, the C3's were what was around as I was a young kid, and what I've always thought of first when I thought of Corvettes. My first ride in one didn't come until the mid 80's, is was a 68 327/350. I will never forget how cool I thought it was how the fenders rose up over front tires looking out the windsheild. I also loved how hte speedo and tach were recessed in hte dash. Those 2 images have stuck with me all my life. I've got the sweeping fenders on my 79, just need to work on getting an older one so I can have those cool recessed gauges in the dash!
In the early 70's, I had a 69 GTO as my daily driver, but decided I wanted a Corvette for my date night, weekend car. I looked at the horsepower ratings and decided I wanted a 70 Corvette. I soon found a 70 big block , 4spd car in Virginia and went to look at it. I drove it home to my house in Maryland with no brakes, using the hand brake only. The car is still alive and well and living in Michigan. The attached picture was taken at Daytona beach in 1976.
I wanted to get a convertible and my wife and I wanted a vette, solution convertible vette. I still have the first one, 69 vert with a matching number 427 and a 4 speed boot. I bought mine 11 years ago.
Girlfriend had a 77, liked the car more than the girl.
Poppa had a 69' convertible, numbers car, MINT condition, sold it to a neighbor 50% off market price due to a drinking problem.
I will never sell my C3 and I plan to buy another so that my (2) kids will get them when I can't pee without assistance.
C3 cars totally represent the end of the 60's all of the seventies and the beginning of the 80's. Being born in 1970 I can't have anything else.
Still looking to buy my C3. When I do get it, I would tell you they were my 1st love. Grew up around them, friends/relatives had them. They still look timeless! Beautiful styling. Can't wait til I get the right one!
WOW!
Well Boy's. For me it was the summer of 1970. I was 5yrs old my dad owne Farmer's Chevron in Columbus GA, On Victory Dr. My dad stayed open late on friday and saturday nights. You name it was there GTXs, GTO's,GTs, Mach1s, XLs, Mustangs, Corvettes. Crazy. One Night this young Army Capt drove in with a BAAAD A$$ Stingray. Not sure of the year. '69 maybe? I remenber him because his name was the same as mine. And as stood there with my finger wrighting out over the stingray on the fender. I always wanted one. Wasnt til Sep of '08 that I bought my wife a '08 Coupe for her birthday. Then in Oct of '10 the '10 Covertible GS. And then for fathers Day this year she got me my '74. Love'em

Nice wife! She got a sister? I see we are the same age. I love my '11 GS Coupe, but looking to add the C3 soon. When I was 4, I can still recall someone shouting "there's the new '68 Vette!" Been mesmorised ever since!
My uncle had a red, '70 vette with a NOM motor but had it built up to a 383 with a lopey cam that made that thing rock. I remember sitting in it at a stop light and just feeling like it was bad *** and that my butt would feel like it's hitting the pavement. He probably got it in '75 when I was about 7, I couldn't wait to go visit him on the farm and be able to wash his car and go for a drive.
I've wanted my own ever since then and finally do. It only took over 30 years to get there.
When I first had an interest in cars (early teens), I was infatuated with Corvettes. When the C3's came out in '68, it was just an awsome vehicle. Once I had a full time job, I bought a new '74. Unfortunately, the C3's had been 'watered down' so much and the styling changed for the worse (my opinion, thank you), so I was rather disappointed. I kept it for one year, sold it and bought a '68 SB coupe. That completely hooked me for life.
