I have a 1972 LT1, I think it is one of the "bare bone" model because it only has one side mirror but have seen others in photos having two. Has anyone added a second side mirror to their car? Is doing so degrade the value? thank you.
I have a 75 that the PO put the second mirror on it I don't know if it was just me but it was worthless and it didn't tilt in enough so I took it off when I repainted I think it looks better without it just my .02

Must have had something wrong with the mirror or it's position. Mine works fine. I'd rather be able to see out the far side properly rather than have to worry what the car would look like after a collision with somebody in the blind spot.
A correct, matching GM mirror will have no negative effect on value.

It would be pretty easy to add the passenger side mirror yourself.
The mirror is attached to the mounting plate via a small allen screw. You can remove this screw to see the mounting plate. The mounting plate is attached to the door by 2 screws. These screws go the door skin, and attach into the door.
I would take off the drivers side mirror, and mounting plate, to see exactly how it's mounted, and what the correct location is. And then measure 20 times, before you drill. All you need to do on the passenger side, is drill 2 holes to mount the mounting plate. It's all about making sure you drill in the correct spot.
Suit yourself, but I like both mirrors. Duals on my 80; duals on the 74 I had; and I've added the RH mirror to my '68.

2 Mikes who have explained so much over time. I took their lead a couple years back and discovered the available pass side mirror kits have a template that makes this addition, a piece of cake.
Only requirement for a clean install: steady hand when drilling.
I put too many miles on my ride not to have that safety boundary. Blind spot, no more. The looks didn't suffer a whit, either.
I put the passenger mirror on my '69 as well. The kit came w/ a template that worked great. At first it wouldn't adjust enought, but after realizing I had the mirror "upside down". The mirror should be offset away from the car so the larger side of the mirror (from the mounting ball) is outboard and up just like in Dustup7T2's pic. Nice pic btw.
I'm not planning on selling my vette so I'm not concerned w/ monetary value. I'm making my car what I want it to be. I think it looks weird with only one anyway.
I'm still amazed that NO ONE (that I know of, anyway) produces a convex mirror to fit into the early C3 mirror bodies. So, we are left to see very little of what's behind us on the right...or to the right of us, because we are all relegated to flat right side mirrors [unless we want to upgrade to a 'sport' mirror, that is].

Passenger side is mounted differently than driver's side. Uses well nuts similar to what is used for the luggage rack. Actually easier to install.
Thank you for the great inputs, I received the catalog I ordered which contain the kit I like. this kit include both mirrors, mounting hardware and they are the larger mirror.
Definitely will measure 1K times before any drill bit touches the car.
Dustup7T2, Nice looking ride. may I asked what style wheels you have on your? Again thank you everyone.
I installed the RT. mirror from CA using their template. I was VERY careful, but it still ended up slightly lower than the driver side mirror. Not really noticeable unless you look closely, but it still bugs me. So you may want to pull the driver mirror to double check holes and HT. before you drill.
If you want the mirrors to be located in the same way, you will need to remove the driver's side mirror and measure the holes from the window edge and from the rear door edge. Otherwise, it will only be close.

Hmm?
I just had my passenger side mirror off to re-paint, and it didn't have any well nuts, it had longish screws that screwed directly into the metal of the door.
I see the pictures in Trae1976's post, so maybe it's the later kits that have the well nuts, and the dealer installed mirrors were done the same as the factory?
Anyway, I can see that the current kits would be much easier, since you don't really need to worry about the angle of you drilling.
