Default uncomfortable seats

In our 81, we have the leather 6 way power seats. When you initially set in they feel great, but after a long road trip. 2 hrs or more, they start to become really uncomfortable. I noticed if I pivoted the back up slightly, my hips felt a little better. I cannot figure out a really good way to adjust the pivot of the split back., Need some input. Any idea's????? I have placed a spacer between the bottom base and the back at the split area, 1/2" and the seat feels much better to me. Al

In my 75 I am switching out the seats for a set of Fiero seats. They fit with sinor mounting fabrication.

Al, unfortunately it seems the best way to adjust these seats is to swap them for C5, or C6 seats. They just aren't that comfortable for long trips for alot of folks.

I used to own an '87 vette, talk about narrow hip hurting uncomfy seats, THAT's it....and could not be fixed either, my stock '72 seats are just fine, per factory....and far superior for long distance drives than later shark seats, for same reasons as the '87 was terrible....

YMMV, as ergonomics are totally personal......

Do you have a pair of aftermarket seats? Only the driver's seat has power on the 81s and 82s. Passenger's seat has no power. Leather was standard. I am wondering whether you are working with other than the stock split backs.

I've driven my 80 all day (literally) without being uncomfortable, but after two hours behind the wheel -- any wheel -- it's time to get out and stretch a bit.

Someone one time did make a adjustable add on after market gizmo to adjust the seat backs on these cars...I saw it being sold at Carlisle many many years ago...

That said in my 79 I carry two open end wrenches and insert one in the lower back where the seat back meets the main seat...makes a major difference... On some days I find that I need toi swap it with the other wrench which is sightly thicker so it raises the seat back up a half a hair more...

BTW...I never keep my wallet in my rear pocket when I drive that car or the 88 for tha matter...the wallet is ok in the 64 72 76 and 98...

I hated the stock seats in my '71. Swapped in '91 seats. Better, but not that much. Went to 79-82 seats with 4" bolsters. Perfect. But I'm 5'10", 160 lbs, which is probably the exact body type they were designed for!

Just picked up a '12 Boss 302 with the recaro seats. WOW! Wish those puppies fit in the C3.

Yes, it's going to depend on height & weight. When the Pace car seats came out, a mag. said something like it appeared nobody tried the Pace car seats before prod.! A topic on the best height, weight & mods for them should help.

The 77 seats are fine on long trips though just a little more lower back support would be nice so I may add just a little, so adding or reducing padding could help.

Congrats.
What no Z06? I am thinking Z06.

I have the same problem with my 81. The seat back is reclined to far back, feels like I'm driving laying down. I cut some heater hose to length and split it down the middle, I cover the lower half and bottom of the upper half with the hose, raise the back up about 1/4 of a inch, its better but I'd like to go another 1/4 of a inch...Tim

the avg american weighed 160 lbs when these cars were designed and if your taller than 6 ft, you may feel like a sardine.
