I'm sorry to hear about all the problems your having with your orders. I don't want to get into my feelings about our current administration so I'll leave it at that. I sure hope everything works out for you.
Now that's bad news! It always amazes me that the 'good people' are victimised. Is belgium restricting your family or the US?
I hope you get released, although I would love to have met you.
Nick
Roger, I love your car and how meticulously you have prepped and executed each stage of the project. It minimized surprises and errors. Sounds to me the assignment office could use that same work ethic so that they too can minimize surprises. This is another example of the sacrifice military personnel endure. I don't know how you and Tass do it, as well as orher military families, but you have my respect and admiration. Based on this disappointing development, I hope they do accommodate you so that you, your family and your 73 are together wherever your orders send you.im hoping for a positive outcome for you!!!

Your car looks GREAT....
Thanks Bud...

Thanks Nick, was looking forward to meeting you and the corvette crew in Beglium... I still may get that chance, albeit by myself with my family in the states somewhere...
The U.S. medical folks are the bad guys in this situation... While they preach they are always trying to find a way to say "yes", I absolutely know there is no possible way they were looking for a "yes" in our case... Think it was easier to say "no", instead of using common sense... To make matters worse, the stuff I shipped from DC (daily driver and household goods) will have to be shipped back from Europe and "guess" who gets to pay for that!!! Double whammy!!!

Thanks Mike... It wasn't the assignment bubbas, it was strictly a few medical personnel and administrators... Really don't know how they make these horrible decisions by looking at a few pieces of paper... With the technology we have, don't know why they wouldn't conduct a VTC to interview the family face-to-face... Our bureaucracy never ceases to amaze me in a negative way... Certainly my worst experience in 28+ years... On the bright side, a stateside assignment will keep the family together and allow me to continue my progress on the Vette... I was very nervous about putting her in the hands on the moving bubbas in the shape she's in right now...
Let's hope we hear some good news today!!! We could really use some...
Thats bad if you are going to be placed in Belgium for 2 years and can not bring your wife with you
Is there no way you can complain about this? So the wife comes along with you to Belgium?
Thanks Roger... I've been complaining since April... I could petition again as early as the beginning of next May to get their medical clearances... So, 10-11 months separated again like we were for school this past year...
Sorry to hear about the current possible personal set back. I too agree that all things happen for a reason. As always, your progress on the car is amazing!
Rogman,
I too am sorry to hear about your problem. Sure hope things work out
for the best for you and your family.
The 73 is looking great and wish mine looked half as good.
Sorry to hear of your deployment woes. Hope you get it worked out soon, and thank you
Good luck with everything
Jim
P.S. Car's lookin' spectacular

Thanks guys, really appreciate it... Still don't have anything definitive on our next assignment, and probably won't know anything else until after the 4th weekend...
Put the passenger door on yesterday and have "major" issues!!! Guess I should've been doing my test fitting with the door striker and latch installed... I also installed the weatherstrip before putting the door back on, which was a big mistake as well... I need to make minor adjustments to the hinges, but will have to wait until the weatherstrip "settles down" before I attempt to do that... Either way, the door striker will not adjust enough inward to allow the door to sit flush... So, believe after we get to our next assignment, I'll need to pull the door, massage it, and respray it... Hope this doesn't happen on the driver's side!!!
I'll post pictures of my mistakes later tonight... Pretty bummed all the way around right now... I will get back after it shortly, put these rookie mistakes behind me, and press on...
I found that the latch pins can move as you tighten them. When I did the final adjustments on mine I used this process:
Adjusted hinges with no latch pin or alignment pins in place. (the ones at the top of the door)
Next I installed the alignment pins at the top of the doors & made sure the door mated up with the receiver without causing the door to move up or down as it closed.
Then I installed the latch pins, found some really nice stainless steel versions, making sure the door closed fully & didn't move up or down. A piece of tape placed horizontally & vertically near the pin helped for reference.
After all the adjustments were done I installed the weatherstrips. They were very tight for a while, but I resisted the urge to readjust the latch pins and now the doors close solidly.
I suppose you may be able to "clearance" the fiberglass slightly to gain some additional adjustment.

Thanks Jim!!! My first rookie mistake was to put the weatherstrip on the door before adjustments... Thought I cold do a better job on the Wx-strips with the door laying flat on my stand... It probably was easier/better to put the Wx-strips on this way, but now, I can't adjust the door... What a !!!
I now have the door shut and will leave it shut for a while as I don't have the time to finesse right now...
Yepper, found the nice polished door strikers as well... Those look !!! Just preparing myself for the worst case scenario... Definitely won't be giving out any advice on door gap fixing like I've done recently... Obviously, I have no idea what I'm doing... Big setback!!!
Hate to bother you with your ongoing problems, but I an curious about your tires. I had Dunlop on the front of mine, but they were put on back in the 80's. Are yours newer?
Old Dunlops.
New BFG's
Couldn't find any new Dunlops with RWL.
Just curious.

These came with the car, so haven't even looked at the production dates... I have a set of 18x8 Centerlines ready to go on "once" I can start driving her... Not going to put the new rubber on the Centerlines until I am ready to ride... Don't want new rubber just laying around the garage or storage closet...
Sorry couldn't be more help... Next time I'm out there, I will take a look at the production dates...
If you only knew all the mistakes I made Don't sweat it the doors should still adjust and close completely with the weatherstripping in place. Leave them closed & move on to something else for a while
