Default What do you do with your Vette?

I was thinking, how much Time do we really use our Corvttes? It seems that most of us spend tones on money and lots of time fixing, up dating and modifying our Vettes. Then I read and hear that most of us cannot spend more than an hour or 50 miles at time driving them.
Why I am saying this... the porsche guys seem to drive and race their cars more often ten we do, they are also don't worry about the expense of the up keep while they race.

Are these Porsche guys racing cars thats are between 29 and 43 years old? Do they work on the cars themselves or have some shop take care of everything for them? If something breaks Hans down at the Porshce salon will fix it for them!

As for me, I enjoy working on my car more then driving. That may sound strange. But being in the garage by myself or with a buddy and the radio is on with good tunes, and then seeing what you get accomplished is fine for me. Driving is a bonus. I ain't sayin I don't like driving it. I do,! But I also enjoy the labor.

You sound concerned about what the Porsche guys are doing. Any reason for that?

I don't know their ages, they may or may not do the work themselves but they drive them more. I love to drive my car but if I drive it more than 2or3days in row I want to kill my self.

Hi,
Is it possible that Bubba is so busy working on Corvettes because there are so many of them, that he's never had the time to work on Porsches?
Thus Porsche drivers can drive and not have to spend time undoing Bubba's work.
Regards,
Alan

Also... on the one Porsche he looked at, he never found the engine!

I've only worked on my Corvette about 1/2-hour since June, but driven it dozens of hours in that same time-span, so I'm not complaining.

I drive my 92 quite a bit. Its a pretty reliable car so I dont spend a lot of time fixing it. I use it to commute to work when I feel like it, or drive to corvette club events. I've driven it in auto x, and take it out for my favorite canyon run, which starts about 2 miles from my house. Caution, steep curvy mountainous roads ahead. In other words, I enjoy driving the car.
The 72 I bought I have never driven. I brought it home and dismantled it. When I complete the restoration, the only thing I will do different is not drive it to work very much.
Maybe some folks don't use their corvettes for much more than a drive for lunch. Racing them gets really expensive and I doubt many porshe owners do that either.

I'm going to take a wild stab and suggest you need to look at a different hobby.

When I get my new engine in, my '71 convertible will see about 4,000 miles a year, including a 10 day trip my wife and I take from Seattle to Napa every year. This is an 800 mile drive.

Which Porsche guys are you talking about? I see lots of Corvettes and 911s at the vintage races.

I love being in the garage too but need to really learn how to maintain and work on the car. I see you are not that far away. Would love to talk sometime and possibly get together. I have been real frustrated dealing with mechanics down here and hope to do my own work eventually.

For sure 69. I just got a shop manual, and I think that I will do some work on the engine this winter, aftter last weeks white smoke show out of the tail pipes at the track. I am psyching myself to maybe re-do the engine.

Thanks for the offer Silver but I was asking daanbc - he lives nearby. Thanks though.
