Probably about $100-150, if it has the convector with it. A rebuilder will charge another $300-400 to refurb the unit. Once you get up to about $500 into such a project, most people would rather choose to put a "quality" sound system in their car.
Hi bn,
The chassis 'numbers' don't matter too much on a radio.
It needs to operate, have the correct style dial letters and station numbers, and the correct *****.
There are reputable repairmen who will repair an original radio for $100 to $200.
Regards,
Alan
Just an FYI BN, that's a 68-71 radio - green dial lettering. The numbers and dial window can be changed to white (plus blue tint) for a 72-76 but it runs the rebuild cost up quickly.
What you need to worry about is that the volume control shaft is bent. There's a slim chance that it can be straightened without fully disassembling the 5 section control, but if the shaft was driven inward, the discs that the carbon tracks sit on, and possibly even the power switch at the rear, are going to be fractured. You don't buy those anymore and it's a large rebuild job to fix them using parts from other controls.
On the upside, the 68-72 stereos can sound pretty darn good, and loud, after they are rebuilt. And a full stereo aux input jack can be added also. The little 4X6 dash speakers drastically limit the radios ability to work up to its potential. A couple 6X9's and it will perform wonderfully.
