Who can tell me the story about headlight washers. Digging through my attic I found a set of headlight bezels off a 69 I had years ago. I was looking at them and realized that they had the washer nozzle in them.
they are in perfect condition. I think they were put up ther in the early 80's.
How rare were these. I know the correct T's are hard to come by, but can any body tell me what years had the washers? Were they an option or were they on all 69's.
I have been around these cars for a long time and think I know quite a bit, but this subject is just not one of the topics I know about.
thanks,
My 69 came with them however it had been hit sometime during it's life and the headlight assemblies have been changed. I still have the washer pump that has 5 hose connections coming out of it unlike my 71 that has 3.
Hi 84,
The headlight washers were a standard featue.
The headlight washers started for the 1969 model year and continued through the early part of 1971 model year production. The bezels continued to have the holes further into 1971 production.
The position of the holes varied during that period and can indicate what year car the bezels are appropriate for, although the bezels fit all cars.
Regards,
Alan
PS; My mid-January built 71 has the bezels with holes, the washer hoses in the compartment, and the 5 port pump. But no nozzles or hoses under the front surround.
The headlight washers were installed in the early style metal bezels, later bezels were fiberglass. The metal bezels are very desirable for people with 68-71 cars.
I think I got $250 out of the last pair of metal bezels I had, and that was about 4 years ago. These were bare bezels, without any of the washer pieces. The nozzles are available new for about $29 for the set, but none of the rest washer pieces are.
Thanks for the input. I have had tons of stuff in the attic for thirty years. It is time to start cleaning things out. If it does not belong to a car I own right now, it is going.
Once again, thanks for clearing it up for me.

Original metal bezels with the nozzles in good condition? Should get some pretty good "change" if you put them on e-Bay.
P.S. My mid-December built car was in the same configuration as Alan71's. Had everything but the nozzles and the fluid feed hoses cut a couple of feet short. Still had most of the hoses intact; GM probably didn't want to re-engineer the pre-made sub assemblies yet.

thanks,
are the hoses and anti siphon valves on them? Worth their weight in gold.(if you can find them)
FWIW... Your metal bezels should have a "D" shaped hole in between the HL openings(on the vertical), and a "D" shaped hole on the horizontal edge.
These were a bugger to get off, and hence a design change in the late 70-71 to what proved to be a disastrous system that soon after went bye-bye

Both my 68 and 70 were involved in head on collisions before I bought them. For the previous owners repair: the 68 has headlight bezels with the washer hole, the 70 has bezels with no washer hole. Arggh.
