Default What to do ?

I am sanding my 70 Vette and I do not know if I should straighten out the body or leave the "factory" waves in it
Right now I am leaning toward leaving them in but open to suggestions
What do you guys think ?
Thanks in advance

Any future plans are for the car? If its going to be judged one day then by all means leave them there. If the body is too perfect it will cost you, but it sure looks pretty when its laser straight. Thats for sure.

Most were so wavy that making them striaght is a great improvement. When painting one and doing it right, you have a lot of time and expense in it so it seems a waste not to make it "pretty."

Hi,
I think there's a 'middle ground' on body strightness.
It can be better than when it left St. Louis, but not perfect.
Regards,
Alan

I'm in the middle of sanding my own '70 as well. I'm not gonna go as crazy as some have, but there are a few big waves in the body like back where the rear structure joins the rear fenders and a couple other places. I think some of these spots tend to shrink over time; a lot of these defects weren't so apparent when these cars were new...

If it is not a show car, I would make it as straight as possible, but not kill yourself trying to get it perfect. I have mine down the glass right now and paint is soon to come. My painter is a perfectionist and said he will prime and paint til it is laser straight. BUT, after several years, he said it will have some waves or imperfections again, just because is it fiberglass and not metal. No way around it.

Define "waves." Individual body panels ought to be essentially smooth. You should expect to find bonding compound shrinkage along the fender lines.

Bonding seam shrinkage is not a wavy panel.

Hi Glenn,
Yes, that it!
I posted a thread with pictures last October after I had it Flight Judged.
I'm sorry you didn't see it!

Alan

I have always equated the photos Alan posts of his car as the "Wilson" of Corvette Forum!

Myself, I'll try and get mine as straight as possible. But I like Alans perspective on it. I'm doing more of a restomod on mine, and I'll drive the thing anywhere when I'm done. So, no sense in making it into a "world of wheels" show car or intentionally leaving as the factory did for an NCRS build. Happy ground is somewhere in the middle.
Alan your car looks sweet.
