Default My 1974 is out of Commercial Storage/Bling

It was nice to drive the car after five months. It ran very well in my 10-mile trip home but I will check dwell and timing on the weekend. All gauges are showing correct readings so I am pleased. Battery is fine. Let me just say that even an L-48 rumble is music.

I won't bore people with my previous years reference to Irene Cara's "What a Feeling" video. But it WAS quite a feeling. It is only March here in Canada but the temps were well into the 70s. After a thorough mechanical/fluid check today all looks well. I may drive tomorrow as winter may come back next week and in April. I normally do not drive until May but....it is so tempting.

I succumbed to some bling in the winter to complement Mooser's billet gas lid of last year: chrome rear lid vents. I hope the Corvette Gods do not bring down their wrath on me!

All-in-all it is nice to have my toy home.

Looks great Paul. I admire you guys who can keep it fairly stock and just do minor upgrades. Seems like every year I am finding major projects to do to mine. It is unique but very time consuming. I see you drive and enjoy yours a lot and that is what they are meant for. Enjoy the warm weather.

Your car looks beautiful - as always. I am so envious of your gas cap. Would love to have one on my '74. Congrats!

I'm not usually enamored with chrome rear vent grilles...but they do look pretty good on that convertible rear deck, along with the snazzy gas cap!!

Alan,

Yes that is what I would expect. But you know all I do can be returned to stock within one day. I do flirt with non-NCRS mods. It's a hobby.

As for this summer, my record over the last 25+ years was 1,500 miles each year. I exceeded that last summer (1,800 miles) despite many repairs. This year (?).

BTW, great thread on the NCRS Board as to why younger people may not take up the Corvette hobby. Or why the C4 or even the C5 is now the new "entry" level Corvette. It really hit home. These are starter Corvettes?

Tomorrow I take the dwell tach out of the basement to do a job on the points and condensor for 2012. That's old.

Paul, great to hear you got out early. The rear vents look fine. I did the front and rear vents chrome on my 73, just to be a little different and have a little extra shiny.

Paul, your '74 is looking good - I really like the gas cap . Enjoy the nice weather. Just received some light snow here in Regina this morning. Just when everything melted and dried up.

I really like that gas lid. Temps are getting back to March normal now but no sign of snow for next week. But it will come again....but not to stay thankfully.

I am simply not capable of doing (financially or technically) what you are doing to your car. I am well past 60 and getting a bit creaky on the physical side but I do enjoy reading about your engine modifications.

Yes, I just drive this old car on occasion and love it. Set the trip odometer to 000 tonight for 2012. Yes, the odometer still works. It showed 805 for last year (1,805 miles), tripped over once.

Love and admire your mods!

You have to love Canada to live here . It was 82*F last week. Tonight will be 14*F. But the 1974 is reposing in the garage comfortably.

Frost on the grass this morning over here, had to hit the defroster on the truck.
Mine is also in the garage, (and my brother's garage, in the basement, some under the bed, behind the couch, a few parts in the shed, some up here in the office..... all I wanted to do was change the air in the tires)

Hey, Paul, I am learning the joy you talk about, was -9 Wednesday but the road was dry and got to put almost 20 miles on mine. Bought it in Feb 2011 and finished paint and interior last month. Got 2 thumbs up before I got to the main road.

Wish I could help you with that fuel pump issue but I have a 350. I can advise to use Permatex hi-temp thread sealer on the 90* brass adapter on the pump to carb line. It will prevent weeping leaks.
