Got to love the repair manuals version of doing anything. Remove bolts, replace part X.

Little do they mention in order to get to the bolts you have to remove parts A, B, and C. None of which will just come off easy. At least 2 bolts will break on you or are fused to the part they are bolting on. 3 hours of cussing, smashed fingers, finding or breaking something else in the process and if you are lucky you finnally "removed the bolts!!!" Don't take this the wrong way I love my vette and the hours of time we spend together, just find it amusing!!!

On another note a new rag joint makes huge difference. I would recommened to anyone even if yours isn't that bad if it hasn't been replaced in the last decade go for it, you won't be disappointed.

a·mus·ing/əˈmyo͞oziNG/
Adjective:
Causing laughter or providing entertainment.
Synonyms:
funny - entertaining - humorous - droll - comical - comic

Not sure if that is the correct Adjective......

Sorry in advance.... rag joint, what's that? No BS from me, I have BASIC mechanical skills and I don't speak the language. That's why I ask a ton of questions on here.

A friend of mine that is very mechanically inclined suggested to me that I get the specific year assembly and shop(service) manual. I had mentioned that I had a Haynes book and he said that it was very possible that I would run into the same problem you are experiencing.

To help you laugh, pretty much any mechanical stuff that I do results in cursing, torn knuckles, blood, praying, begging, and negotiating. "What the hell were these guys thinking" is a frequent comment from me.

Good luck.

You must be using a "Haynes" manual. Even the Chilton's books do better than that.

The Engineers who design cars and motorcycles, and lots of other things, too, are mainly concerned with making whatever they are designing easy to build on an assembly line. Making the product easy to work on in your driveway, is of secondary importance to them, if at all. Think about that next time you're working on your car, snow blower, vacuum cleaner, pool filter, lawn mower, washing machine, etc., and you will notice plenty of examples of this phenomenon.

Keep the shiny side up!

Jedi 926, the "rag joint" is the rubber and metal steering coupler between the steering column and the steering gear bolted to the frame. Mikie says to get the correct year AIM and chevy corvette service manual. Couldn't help that Easy Mike ! Lou.

Typical repair manual speak:

"ENGINE REMOVAL: Step 1- REMOVE ENGINE. To install engine, REVERSE STEP 1."

What more could you possibly need??
