Default Tires

I am running the stock rims on my 78. I just bought it so the tires are cracked and don't hold air. Everything I am reading confirms to go with all 4 tires the same size and not to run staggered tires.

I am thinking 255/60r 15.

Just want to make sure this will be okay, etc.

You have it correct. P225/70R15 are the standard tires and P255/60R15 are the optional tires. The car would have come from the factory with either depending on how it was spec'd out.

Those will work and most are running the same size all around. You can use the forum search feature (on the right side above the discussion list) to see discussions of the various brands and sizes . .

If the 78 came with 255/60's from the factory then no problem as the lip of the fender was trimmed. If it came with 225/70 the lip should not have been trimmed and you could have a rubbing issue. Rear no problem.

if your car has Gymkhana suspension or is an L82, I believe it was standard with the larger tire size. of course the originally owner could have ordered larger tires as an option. no real way to tell about that without the build sheet or a copy of the window sticker, etc
