Default A few questions

1. how much am i gonna effect the value if i change from the factory paint color...

2. how much am i gonna effect the value if i upgrade the heads, swap out the manifolds for headers, cam, and intake...(I will keep them all)

Is a pretty much bone stock 1980 L-82


Not sure which direction i wanna go...

It won't affect the value at all...until you decide to sell it. But, once you get more power out of that engine, the damage you'll do 'tearing up the streets' will drop its value much more than the different paint color.

But, to your original question: If someone wants a pristine, stock car of your year, he/she wouldn't even consider looking at one which had the color changed and the engine modified....even if you still have all the original parts. And those folks are the only ones who would pay any kind of a 'premium' for a completely stock car.

Just do what you want with it and take what you can get when you sell it.

I'd say that if it's in very good shape and can easily be put back to absolutely bone stock condition, you have a chance of this car being more valuable than a run of the mill '80. After all, the L-82 was the only "high performance" corvette you could get that year.
So, if that's the case, you should consider leaving it the stock color and you may want to avoid other modifications.
Otherwise, have fun with it. Customize it the way you want it and have fun!

I have had my 80 for 15yrs, a few years back I changed a few things to wake it up ,I'm now running about 275HP real happy with it , I never got it painted , cause it's still pretty nice . If the paint is nice and done well you will not gain or loose, canadaflag::

Hi hl,
The question about the color is a little easier to put in perspective.
I believe generally a color other than what the trim tag calls for decreases the value by the $$$ required to change it back to that color.
But often a person looking for a car with it's original color doesn't even consider one without it.
And a person looking for a nice car in any color won't be bothered at all; he'll just be looking at the paint and how nice it is.

NONE. As a matter of fact, I wish I could have found one with a better engine and new paint of any color. There are purests, but where I live, very few. Most around here are street modders, and appreciate a good restomod. So my opinion is do what you want. And these are not comments because it is an 80. Just because it is yours. The only thing I would suggest would be be to not do anything gaudy, that you don't think most people would like, then it becomes a niche car. But a simple paint change done well, and motor upgrades are a plus for a lot of people. Me included.

thanks, i think im gonna change the color just a tad from bone stock it was silver, with a red interior...its a charcol grey now(im gonna change it to something closer to stock)

as for the motor i wanna bring it up to 300 +/- hp...

wheels and thats about it...

unless of course it sells first...which is up in the air not really the year i wanted how ever it was a steal

I think the correct color could affect the selling price, but as a small bonus, it could also increase the selling price.

While some are looking for an original ext. color, int. color combination, others may be looking for a certain color car.

If a person wanted to buy a Targa Blue Corvette, and that is the color of your car, then the original color may not matter that much.

But if the person wanting to buy your car saw it was originally painted Steel Cities Gray, and it is now blue, then they would either pass, or begin the negotiating process.

Now when I bought my 1972, I loved the Targa Blue paint. It wasnt until I started doing more research on Corvettes that I found out it was originally a Steel Cities Gray car, and then decided that was a great looking color on the 72 vettes.

So it could go either way, but probably more of the latter than the former.
