Default 74 0r 75?

Hi Guys,

I've a project that should be arriving mid September to the UK from California.
I realise that I have a hell of a lot of work to do on the car to make it nice. The VIN states its a 75 originally. The rear has been changed over at some stage for an 80 - 82 rear end but I am wondering if the front has been changed at some point? I've hunted but not seen any other 75's with the pointed front?

Here's a pic of the front

Its coming with a new front bumper.
What do you guys think?

The headlights are non-stock and are custom.

The leading edge is straight, like a '74. It could just be changed on the edge for the cleaner straight line look, or to get the cleaner '74 bumper without the black rubber bumpers.

The '75 has the leading edge run back between the headlights.

Cheers guys, I've run the VIN and it comes up as a 75. Just wondering if the front clip has been changed either for the look or through previous damage. I'd like to get the lights back to the original as I'm not sure on the Monza conversion. I'll see how it goes when I sort the paint out. It will arrive with the new bumper, full carpet set, seat covers and weatherstripping. That's my winter nights taken care of

The nose is a 73 or 74. They had the straight line while the 75 and later had a "bump up" in the middle.

Thought so Tom, definitely a 73 or 74 front end. A friend on a forum over here suggested that it may be a very late 74 that was registered in 75. I was planning to re instate the pop up lamps but after looking online it looks like the 74 & 75 lamps are slightly different?

Hi YB,
After looking at the fit of the hood it certainly looks like the front surround or clip could have been changed, or at least seriously massaged.
The hood gaps weren't all that great originally, but were a bit better than that.
The fact that the headlights were changed to a simpler/cheaper set seems to me to indicate some front end damage too.
Regards,
Alan

Cheers Alan,
I hope I know what I'm letting myself in for
I'll just have to wait and see once it docks in the UK.

Desperate to pull it to bits

That's not how registrations work in North America. The last '74 was built in September '74. Even if it sat unwanted until '75 it would still be registered as a '74.

If it is a '75 (as per the VIN) it would have the '75 nose and bumper.

The headlamp assemblies are the same from '69 through '82 AFAIK.

Thought that Mike.
I'm sure in its 37 years of use it has had some repairs and bumps.
Just read a post on here that has blown me away. A 1973 Vette with 6,147 miles on the clock. Whats the point of having a car and not driving it to keep the miles down... WOW...

Cheers Chaps
