Usually one of the things that gets forgotten when an LT-1 clone is being made is the fact that the tach is very different (due to the LT-1's solid lifters, etc.). Maybe the tach was replaced at some point with the incorrect part, or maybe the car is a base model small block.
Like others have said the tach is correct. However the most important thing is 1972 was the only year that the VIN told you it was an LT-1. So it becomes very difficult to clone. The VIN is most paperwork you could ever need.

The VIN does NOT prove it's an A/C- (Air Conditioned) car!

My 2 cents,
It sounds to me that your on a budget when you mention the shipping costs. I (for half the cost) purchased a base coupe and kept the other half in my pocket. I have had the pleasure of owning several muscle cars and can't justify spending double the cash just because its a LT1 or SS or an R/T or whatever. I have a great time with my car and listen politely to comments like "too bad its not a big block"

Ya gotta laugh

Never said it did. Many were talking about LT-1's in general and many people do not know that in 1972 it was in the VIN. Just look at the quote I used, the poster is talking about 70-71's, cloning etc. If you read the quote I referenced then you will see. If its in the VIN its a lot more difficult to fake an LT-1 in 1972 then in 1970 or 1971 thats all.

No, we were talking about a 72 A/C car and the tach limits as compared to the 70/71. The A/C is the reason for the difference in the red line as mentioned. In "most" cases the AC car will bring more money, therefore the become attractive to replicate or fake. An unsuspecting buyer could easily be fooled into thinking they were buying a real AC car. The VIN indicates the LT 1 and I agree it does make them more difficult to fake but it has been done! (With A/C added too!)

"The VIN is most paperwork you could ever need."

More proof or documentation is needed for the true A/C car, IMO!

I was, just as you were trying to help inject good information.........

Chief WB I hear ya, I've owned a 72 LT-1 since new, owned 3 Air cars very familar with them. The posters quote I was using was addressing both the tach and faking LT-1's in general since he was addressing 70's and 71's, but I see what your talking about. I do understand where your coming from.

Chief WB here's a pic of an WB LS6 I just sold. Love WB when its done right in Lacquer!
