Too many variables. 4-speed or auto? Frame rusty? Birdcage rusty? How much is original? How does it drive? Interior needs work? Needs paint? How well does enigne run? Trans shift smoothly? Numbers matching? Everything works?

Price can be anywhere from $8k-40k depending on the answers to the above

Hi B,
A 72 LT-! a/c car can be quite valuable.
I think this one will need some money spent on it to reach it's value potential.
Are you considering buying it without seeing first to discover just exactly what's there. The VIN will tell if it WAS an LT-!, but not if it still IS. You'll need to determine that.
If you're buying it sight unseen ,(just pictures), you almost need to consider that it's a 72 sb coupe. Then it's a little expensive in my mind.
If you bought it, what would be your plans for it?
Regards,
Alan

Hi Bruce,
I'll ask again, what would your plans be for it?
That could well determine what you can/should pay for it.
Would you buy a car without seeing it in person? Are you knowledgable about LT-! a/c cars?
I'm just trying to make you think about this while the money is still in your pocket, not his.
Regards,
Alan

Just do your research (it's all on the web) and make sure all the numbers and date codes check out. There is one in the Atlanta CL right now advertised as a " matching numbers 330 hp" for $13k. From the pics it is clearly a base engine and not an LT1.

I gather that this is the car:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chevr...item3a7ac77d9f

I was watching this auction... Didn't pull the trigger though.

From the photos it looks pretty nice although photos can be misleading sometimes. It also looks like it sold... Did you purchase it?

This car appears to have original paint. The interior also seems to be in pretty good shape. If you did buy it, don't be so quick to start "fixing" this car.

Regards,

Stan Falenski

Default 72 LT1 with Air

Thanks everyone for the help.
Stan i was the high bidder on Ebay although not bring familiar with ebay i told him i cannot purchase the car because it would cost me an additional $1750.00 to transport it with customs , to Canada.

For close to $20,000.00 i do not know if it is a good deal the car still needs some work. Whats your take on it.

Huh? you were the winning bidder and you are backing out due to shipping costs? you did not consider this before bidding?

do you realize your bid is a legal contract and you can get sued?

amazing....

actually, ebay motors is the one place in ebay that your bid is not a binding contract. Read the fine print, it says somehting to the affect that your high bid just gives you the right to negotiate a price with the seller.

I won my 69 on ebay because the high bidders kept backing out.

I tend to agree with joewill. You should have known the ins and outs of getting the car home before you bid on it.

Default My 2 cents:

My 2 cents:

*72LT1 are pretty rare, supposedly only 240 made.

*Rarer C3's are probably the better investment on the long haul.

*Take your price on the car and add:
-shipping, might drive there and trailer it back cheaper?
-customs
-new paint
-new exhaust
-new parts
-more new parts

*I would guess you want to keep it original or NCRS compliant to max the value in the marketplace. Or if you are not worried about that, that is cool too in my book.

Add up the total and see if you are in the ball park of what one in great shape would cost. I thought I saw a few 72LT1 a/c around on ebay or otherwise you could compare too.

If it cost more to fix this one up compared to what you could buy one for in great shape, there is your answer. Of course, a lot of C3 owners are upside down, but hey, this is a fun hobby, not necessary a big potential return on investment venture. (Me myself, would be thrilled to break even, and not even counting the labor, LOL's )

I guess it depends on what you want to do with it. If you intend to flip it after doing all the work it appears to need you probably wouldnt make much. If you intend to keep it and drive it and do what it needs over time it's a good price. The one thing the pictures dont show is the underside of the car and it's condition with respect to rust.
