What do CF forum members think the value of this distributor would be? GM factory dual point, with cable drive. Bought brand new from Chevrolet parts. Less than 500 miles of use. Cant seem to find any numbers on it.
A dual-point distributor has NO advantage over a single-point design, if the stock unit is mechanically sound and you are not revving over 6000 rpm or so. It is just more trouble to set up and, unless you really need it, the only benefit would be that you could tell folks that you had one...

Regarding the part #: some have a (stainless?) steel band wrapped around the upper neck with the PN.
If not, then a possible step is to determine how much time you may choose to invest, into finding out.
It sounds like a nice piece and to someone in search, the value is subjective. Between you and the buyer but the suggestion is to see how wide your potential customer base is and how great the need. Supply and demand and vice-versa.
Shucks, if I had a need, I might PM to get more info. Currently, I don't... but good luck. Maybe someone else will chime in.
All 62-74 Corvette tach drive distributors, are basically the same. Only the 62 was ever factory installed using the dual points, but all of them use the same breaker plate that will except one or two sets of points. There were also 2 different main shafts. One was used with in engines with 300 horse power or less, and the other in higher horse engines. 62 dual points, didn't have vacuum advance, while 63 and later tach drives had vac advance.
You can buy brand new 62 dual point distributors for about $350, and 63 up single point tach drives for around $425. Generally used tach drives go for $75-150, depending on condition, year and numbers. I would guess yours is somewhere in the $150 range, maybe a little more if you can prove that it only had minimal use.
The 62 dual point distributors seem to be quite common. Like you, I think a lot of people bought them from Chevrolet, because they wanted a dual point and that's what Chevy offered.
The only place that there was any numbers, was on a tag wrapped around the top of the distributor.
without seeing it I bet the aluminum tag number is 1110985, you can decipher the date by reading it as month/year/day except when reading the month there is no letter I. GM sold thousands of them over the counter, it was a drag racer favorite.
Hi,
I believe in the 60s "dual point distributor" became one of those "hot" phrases that Chevy people liked to use such as "Duntov Cam, and "double-hump heads".
Nice parts to have for your sb back then.
Regards,
Alan
I bought the dual point 1110891 dist(no vac. advance) for my 327 in my 57 Chevy back in 1964 for $18 at the local Chevy dealership. I think the 097 cam was $18, the 300 HP intake was $28, and the 461 large valve "fuelie" heads were $150!!
Let's see....at about an 8:1 or 10:1 inflation rate, from then to now, those numbers would seem to be about right. Remember, gas was 39 cents a gallon, too.
Hey, I worked my @ss off on Saturday washing cars at the local garage so I could have $5 to go on a date! Times HAVE changed!

Is this distributor Aluminum or castiron, an does the cap have the duel windows?
