Hi G,
New one for me!
From the NCRS 68-69 TIM/JG, Center Storage Compartment: "Occasionally, a kidney shaped chrome plated shim is found attached to the lid of this compartment in order to insure that the light goes out when the lid is closed".
It doesn't specify year.
Regards,
Alan
Sounds like it might have been an in-plant correction when they test for that light going out. If it didn't, that's probably the "repair" before the vehicle is accepted. It probably isn't associated with a particular model year....but it might only be needed during '68. My guess is there was probably a hardware fix to the light, thereafter.
George,
Hello I have the same set up in my June of 68 coupe.
Center console fiber door panel.
The contact cancels the light by coming in contact with the plunger.
I bet 7T1 is correct.
Probably an in house correction the engineers missed.
I think there was a hardware store across from every GM plant in the US.

No originals had the part. It came out in a service bulletin after production had begun. It's a GM fix for car owners who complained the battery would drain down because the glove box light was staying on with the door closed.
