Default 1976 cowl paint

I just had the car painted and realized that the painter forgot to repaint the cowl black. The painter is going to paint the cowl black, but I can not remember where the black starts. I seem to remember that is does not line up with the inside of the hood channel, but is indented. Can anyone give me a dimension of indentation if that is the case or if in line with inner hood let me know. As always, advanced thanks for your help.

If you haven't done so already, you really should re-seal all the seams/holes/joints in that cowl area before having it painted. You can go to the trouble of scraping out all the old stuff... OR, you can just dig out any loose stuff and then use some butyl rubber sealer (in caulk tubes....Lowes stores) to seal up possible leak areas. Do not try to spread this stuff. Just install it in bright sunlight so the sun's heat will warm it and allow it to flow and smooth out nicely. Butyl caulk never completely hardens and it survives UV rays and temp changes better than any other type of caulk. It will also accept black-out paints.

DO NOT use silicon sealant junk...it won't last.

Hi o76,
I'm not sure if this is what you're asking or if 76 cars even have this 'gutter'.
The demarcation varied slightly from car to car. This is a 71
Regards,
Alan

He doesn't.

Not because it isn't clean enough....but because he doesn't want to get 'dinner' on the car!
