Gunner, you've been on every govt. watchlist since 1972, nothing new here.
Good to see the steady progress. Stay healthy.

Doorgunner, I think that Mid America would help you out with the extra long carpeting. Lou.

JUST GREAT! You've seen my 201 File also?

Thanks Lou......you were reading my and Derek's minds.

So.....I managed to keep the 1-2 hour-per-day Rule even with all the errands thrown in............

I made one side-extension for the cargo area before road-running, and started the other panel upon returning home tonight.

Maybe tomorrow I will be able to make the cargo floor panel

And yes......my grand-daughter is now part of Corvette history....the only available large-enough/flat-enough/non-stick surface was the lid from a storage bin...the outline of the panel shows perfectly for trimming...........

naturally the resin absorbed the permanent marker writing with no problem also!

Thanks NAVY08........

that reminds me that I need to visit the garage and check the second panel to see if it is beginning to harden.

Remember......I'm a Rookie at fiberglass work...don't use my "method"......LOL!

I actually did more panel-making this morning (after getting the family car inspected/tires balanced).......

I bought one of those fluorescent light diffuser panels to use as a surface to make the large cargo floor extension 36" wide by 15" deep/then used a marker to lay out the pattern.......

The same pattern was drawn on the fiberglass cloth........

I put a full size piece of cloth as the base layer/then used four edge-remnants of cloth to lay the next layer/alternating layers of full size and remnant cloth and coating the entire area with resin between layers......finally I added the full size 4th layer to finish the thickness....the panel isn't quite as thick as the original trunk floor because I used woven cloth for more support........Because of the extra floor length I will also add metal support braces under/across the floor.......

I'll give it an hour to firm-up......then trim the edges of all three pieces to rough-size for fitting onto the body.

NOTICE: DO NOT USE FLUORESCENT LIGHT PANELS....THEY DO NOT LET GO OF THE CURED FIBERGLASS!

you also found the best way to get good at fiberglass work before you started attaching things to that body...

I trimmed the edges of the new panels to rough-size, but had a problem removing the drip-tray/it REFUSED to "de-bond" from the original rear panel---so I had to cut off the entire upper part of the rear trunk panel/I will make a patch-panel to fill the void.........

This is the amount gained by removing the tank and extending the walls and floor.......3 feet wide by 15" deep.......

I'll try to install the panels tomorrow

Tony are you using some kind of releasing agent to remove the fiberglass. I used Turtle wax heavy 3 coats and then laid my mat and resin. Just saying!!!

R........the smaller panels release with no problem when I laid them on the large Tupperware lid......
BUT.....I got the bright idea to use a bigger ceiling-light-diffuser---it FELT like PVC based material--but it apparently had more "plastic" in it, causing the resin to bond to it

No big deal....I'll use the large Tupperware lid for the rest of the fiberglass work.

I did a little mocking up and measuring.....it's not "pretty", but now I have a good idea of the panel trimming that I will need to do.

This is a pic from the passenger side looking into the trunk/cargo area.
At the far end of the tape is where the original rear tank wall will soon fit..............

This is the original depth from the panel behind the seats...... 30" ......

This is the modified depth with the tank wall removed and the fiberglass extensions in place......... 45".................

Here is the original tank wall mocked up and resting against the frame rear crossbar.................

I wish that drip-pan would have come aloose with the heat gun/it would have fit much better in the new location, but it wouldn't budge after 45 minutes.....so I "wacked" the drip pan with a 6" cut-off disc.

Tony, I think you got it! Looks like you are doing an off body restore while keeping the body on the frame. I think between the 2 of us we might have been able to get a job with GM back in the 60's. We may have been just cleaning floors but who knows. Keep up the good creative work.

Doorgunner.. this is the most interesting C3 thread I've seen in a while. I have no idea where you're going to end up with that project but like they say, the point of the journey is the journey itself.

Or interesting as in "May you live in interesting times." Which is actually an old chinese curse. Cuz let's face it...you are never bored in a train wreck. and thanks. now i have paypal money. it is like play money. you never actually see it so it is easy to spend on stuff the spousal unit would complain about...like vette parts!!
