The only way you`ll ever get that much weight in that cargo area is if you start hauling around a load of bricks! Job well done! Looks like you`ll be able to haul damned near anything you want back there!
LOL! (My wife's suitcase=BRICKS) I also "grabbed" the side panels while laying under the rear area and did a few "pull-ups" to make sure they held. Even though the floor will never see 170 lbs., I'll still run a "crossbrace" under the extension to prevent the deck from getting any stress cracks in the new paint (hopefully new paint in the next month).
It's time to visit the garage and bond the floor extension in place...will be back with pics this afternoon,
Good news......the first layers of cloth are applied to hold the floor section in place.....the floor extension is actually where the bottom of the gas tank would be......
the vertical stick/brace provides support to the original floor where it joins the extension until the resin cures......I placed a 20 lb. bag of blasting sand inside the car on top of the floor extension to hold it snugly against the car's original fiberglass.......
In an hour or so I'll apply the last layer of cloth all the way around the corners of the floor......tomorrow I get to climb inside the cargo area and lay fiberglass onto the inside seams/corners of the floor extension.
NO....I would never do this to a car that is even close to being original!

Pardon the wet paint/lumps/bumps.......but the cargo extension is complete....and it only took a YARD of fiberglass cloth to bond the inside joints/seams.......
Wet paint............
Now.......THAT'S what I call CARGO SPACE........my wife will be able to bring half her closet on those two week roadtrips..........
I will lay down the carpet to see how much I need to buy in order to cover the floor extension and new side panels.
I need to close off the opening for the gas cap once I start bonding the exterior joint where the tail light clip and the original deck meet. I will leave the fuel door in place and able to open just for fun/nostalgia.
I could get a few cases of beer in there, nice work buddy. Must give you a great feeling of accomplishment after the last few months, congrats.

Seriously, nice work, and well thought out.

"Meet my leetal friend"..............................
Thanks Guys.....it was really a drawn-out deal with the P.T.S.D......there were days when I literally thought it was impossible to finish the modification......much less the project....
Thanks Calo! "You talk about laying down for 2 hours of F U N" inside the cargo area with the fumes from the resin/good thing I put a ventilator fan over the gas cap opening to draw all the fumes out.
I got a one-hour "burst" of energy and decided to clean up/shovel my 3 month mess from under the car. But everything ended up on TOP of the car........I installed the lower valence to get an idea of how the custom tank will fit/no problem/the tank won't be visible..............
Don't worry about fumes, your brain is already fried, as long as your laying down in garage (conscious) things are improving.
Starting to look like you can be rounding uo the chrome.

I'm hoping I can (I've got to get as much done as possible in case the PTSD comes to visit again)!
AMAZING progress Tony! When you get going, you REALLY move! and the work is tremendous! Man! Keep it up! I see a light at the end of the tunnel, and it ain't a freight train! Those sweet shiny bumpers will be on there in no time! Summer and cruising are coming! Now does that two week trip with the wife include a stop in Iowa? If so bring some boudin and crawfish! I can make a decent gumbo! And some gator tail while we are at it, especially since you got all that extra room in there!! Make it a good' un!
