no. you are looking at the harmonic balancer. it has nothing to do with the crank throws. a 3 inch 283 crank and a 3.75 400 crank are gonna look the same at the balancer. what you are doing is computing the 4 inch radius of the 8 inch balancer. reading the casting number off the crank will work good.

Like I said, it looks good on paper!
I would try it and see how close you come and go from there.
What have you got to loose?
Sounds like a plan!

I'll be taking the oil pan off in a couple weeks to paint everything and get the casting #'s for you.
Then you and O.C.B. will have all the info. to keep me honest
Heh Doorgunner, after all these posts, I am curious what the status of your car is…can you give us an update?,

Derek (derek) Scarey....Huh !
What happened was....IF i put as much effort into the car aaaaas i did to the room addition my wife wanted....needed.....id be driving the Vette next week
I restarted this thread so you guys could give me some engine advice on the project hoping that the car would get some attention....and my brain would kick into gear.
The Harley is about 40 hours from being a complete daily rider.
I need to realign the driver door and install gauges and seats....(NOT on the Harley)....
then the car will be complete w/paint from the rear bumpers UP TO the firewall.
The clip still needs another 10 x 10 patch panel before I can sand it down enough for filler.
The engine and trans needs to "hang from the rafters" so I can clean-repaint them.
The engine bay also needs some repair work before I can sand and paint it.
WHEW!
Are you doing the 4l60 swap? And a line from I think a Springsteen song. “Life gets in the way.” If I didn’t have to spend the last year playing general contractor doing 2 bathrooms, a kitchen and sheet rocking entire downstairs my 75 would have chrome bumpers on it by now. What sucks is I doubled house value just to lose 30-50k by taking a couple months too long. Threw out most of my coats last fall cuz I thought I was outta the north. Here it is almost fall again…
I get it Tony.
I work on our new garden shed in the mornings and the Corvette in the afternoons.
I have another plastic shed to tear apart and then I can rebuild that shed.
Then there’s our new retirement life and using our new travel trailer.
That is a whole other project, getting it outfitted, camping gear and all the gadgets that go with it, I could have built another Corvette.
Yep yesterday I had just enough time to remove the drivers door mirror.
Go Tony, you're our MAN! If anyone can do it, Tony CAN!!!
"I get by with a little help from my friends...."

Several deals have fallen thru on a replacement forward sprag assembly...looks like I will spring for a new sprag and races...but I'm going with everyone's advice and put some miles on the TH400 before finishing the 4L60E.

Springsteen also said " good luck, goodnight, one two powershift".
Annnnnnnd....how is that new yellow convertible doing?????
GOOD NEWS.....I actually forced myself to pick up a "previously owned" forward sprag today. It needs a good scrubbing, but the races are as slick.....well.....you know.
(Don't tell my wife about the assembly site).............................
Now I can finish assembling the trans internal parts. (I still plan on using the TH400 thru 2022 (God willing )
Doin' fine. replaced the carb not too long ago. My Evo lost a wrist pin circlip and destroyed a piston and cylinder. Just got it back together, 115,000 miles and running better than ever. Glad to see you getting things done.
Rebuilding transmissions and all the other work you've done on this car, I'm really impressed, doorgunner! If I tried to do the amount of work you've done on this car I'm pretty sure I'd have given up long before now.
Thanks Priya. The PTSD has dragged this project out an extra 8 years. I never would have thought a mental block could cause so much trouble.
Ohhhh well.
I tried to finish assembling the 4L60E, but the brain locked up...got NOWHERE in 2 hours so I re-re-re-watched the rebuild videos.....
0hhh wait....THAT Apply Plate with the 3 tangs is upside down!
Time to find the rebuild manual that has the COLORED pics
