Doorgunner's '68 Convertible Project

Aluminum, copper, stainless steel and gold are all different type conductors and provide more or less resistance.
This is extremely important when designing complex electronic circuits but with today’s automotive technology it can be important.
There are also different types of insulation to consider.
Some insulation will discolor, deform, melt and burn at a lower temperature than others.
If you notice the insulation discoloring or melting while you are soldering connections, using a heat gun to melt solder splices and shrink tubing, that wire should not be used for high amp applications or anywhere near engine heat.
Good wire is expensive and you need to know what you are buying before you just order it off the internet.

It's time to shovel out the garage (literally) again so I can walk without tripping! ADHD/PTSD/WXYZ strikes again...pics are too gross to post!

A previous owner crushed the housings for the wiper door actuators,,,,,,,so......
I'm fitting a "mold" into the enlarged opening........
It's covered/roughed-in with fiberglass mat.....the aluminum tape is to keep the plastic container/mold in place while applying fiverglass.......
I'll do the same to the driver's side housing tomorrow then sand down the mess I made (good thing I didn't do a good job of painting the upper firewall yet)

The tupperware popped out no problem......

Hardy Harrr Harrr!
It doesn't bond with fiberglass resin...it just popped out when I removed the aluminum tape that was holding it in place.
I started on the driver's side...same problem/same solution....
I trimmed the opening to fit the plastic mold and taped it in place....
Now for some fiberglassing later today.
The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
I just got my Summit order that partially consisted of some fiberglass resin and matte among other things. Soon I'll be attempting my first ever fiberglass repairs. Nothing as big as what you showed, but still daunting to me nevertheless.
Keep at it DG

today I get to sand everything and drill a 4" dia. hole in the face of each housing.
A shop vac. , Harbor Freight rain jacket and rubber gloves should keep me from itching for a week

But first...a trip to Phys. therapy this morning may help me avoid a 3rd spine surgery
(stay away from Commies with bayonets!)

The new housings will contain air filters and the chrome ducts will fit in holes drilled into the face of each housing.
I will still use the aluminum plenum()? and chrome ducts to feed the carb.

waiting for the 2nd layer of filler to dry for sanding and hole drilling....
Time for a late lunch.
I made the same mod Tony did to my 73’s firewall.
Then I ran two 2” flexible ac ducts off my Vintage Air system, cut holes in the side of my air cleaner, attached the ducts, and made the absolute best CAI on this planet.
When I woke up this morning, my first thought was, IT COULD REALLY WORK!
I’m going to start a thread just for fun!

IF I were you....I would put a liner in the Jack Compartment.
Run one 2" duct to one new hole in the air cleaner from the J.C.
Fill the J.C. with ice cubes.
You be sending 40*F air to the air cleaner
90* ambient - 40*F Ice = 50*F CAI

FOR ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES ONLY !

Rubber grommet installed.......
Piping connected to dual plenum air intake.......
I'll attempt to do the same to the driver-side intake plenum later today.
Isn't it great
...I lowered the hard top to put a dust-cover on it, but my 12 year old H.F. hoist refused to lift the hardtop up to the ceiling!SO...I get to finish the engine bay work with the hardtop AS IS.
I'm hoping to troubleshoot it once I move the car out of the garage.
