Doorgunner's '68 Convertible Project

when you're staring at a box of new parts that is the size of a suit-case........

and you don't have the gumption to open the box!

Some days the hardest thing to do is to get your behind off the couch but once that is accomplished the day goes along just fine (usually).
I don't understand what your going through Doorgunner I do know that sometimes you just have to fake it and go through the motions. Sometimes that helps other times...........

.......Forum member Headbolt sent my daily driver rear bumpers! Now I can saw off that late '70s bumper clip and install the '68 tail light/bumper clip that I bought a few months ago.....
(Since the car is VINned and titled as a '68......may as well make it LOOK LIKE a '68).........
It's time to get the buffing wheel and chrome polishing compound out...........

Psssssssssssssssst......don't wake up the puppy-dog!

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts

The A.D.D. took control...again...I also needed walking room in the garage.....so the hardtop is going "on the ceiling".
The box of stuff...........................

I used a plumb-bob to locate the center of the hardtop and marked the ceiling---then put a section of steel tubing through the ceiling into the attic in order to locate a hook/pulley assembly...........

The hoist is mounted on the base board/it still needs a backboard and upright supports before it goes on the wall.......

That's it until tomorrow.

and run the hoist up/down a few times......
But had to leave the house in a hurry before I coild take pics.
I'll try to get pics tomorrow while I'm rigging a harness for the hardtop.

Glad someone is working on theirs , it's been almost 2 months now since I been in the garage . I hope my car is still in there , LOL !

(Do you need a map to your garage.
)The forum members gave me the plan for the hoist.....I just followed their lead.

A ceiling-corner pulley is installed........

The ceiling pulley that does the lifting is connected to a ceiling joist....

To test the set-up I lowered the hook to the approximate level of the hardtop.......

Tomorrow.....hopefully....I will set up the lifting straps on the hardtop and give it a couple test installs/removals.
( Now I will actually be able to walk in the garage without dodging/tripping over "stuff".....and since new paint for the car is in the near future, the hardtop will have a safe place to stay on sunny days)

Its all good , I'll get motivated soon .... I hope ..... Stay warm

After he graduated, he was randomly murdered by an Illegal Mexican. Now, in spite of the sadness, I have good memories that I went to all those events.

I managed to get into the garage tonight and get a little more done.
Hoist...$100/Pulleys & anchors...$15/Straps...$10/Fear-factor during test lift...Pricele$$.
This is NOT a good spot for a $1200 chunk of fiberglass/safety glass! Time to make a change............

I put the hardtop on manually.....and then took some Aleve....

I connected the tie-down straps temporarily to the four corners of the hardtop and approximated the center of gravity----then crossed my fingers/toes/eyes.....and raised the hardtop a few inches.........

I raised and lowered it no more than a foot several times---just to be safe.
I finally got the nerve to make the real lift (talk about nervous!)......
...........WHEW............
The hook is not centered exactly, but it will work until I fabricate a permanent lightweight frame.

I'm going into the attic later and add one more brace to the ceiling joist to bridge 3 joists together (I noticed a slight "twitch" of the ceiling area near the main pulley when the hoist first activates)...it may never be a problem, but..........
that's way too high to "havta catch it!"
