They won't let us do that down here......something about electing our own President...securing the borders.....whipping the terrorist's A$$E$.....becoming the world's largest producer of oil, grits, and Mardi Gras beads.

This is the problem--less than 2" from the side of the transmission which causes the speedometer cable to lay on the top of the exhaust pipe....the camera makes the gap look larger than it actually is.....
...
After modifying/wrapping the exhaust pipe, the cable now has plenty of clearance--no more melting Shifter cable or speedometer cable.......

The project will get another week off.....this time NOT because of PTSD!
I'm buying a complete soft-top from a forum member in South Carolina.......the thing is---I live near New Orleans and the shipping charges by freight are ........with gas prices this "low", I can actually drive up there and back for less than the cost of building a crate plus what the freight carriers charge!
Plus.....my wife has wanted to see Charleston for years now....win/win!
Even though the convertible (as ugly as the paint and body are)...
............. would make the trip with no problems now that all the mechanical issues are solved, friends want to make the trip with us----so we'll be going in the "decade-old-LOL" SSSSScalade.
I'm in Myrtle Beach. You wouldn't want to wander up here, would you DG? I'll buy you some donuts...LOL! I really don't eat them, myself. Lou.
I'd go up there........(was there in '86 to visit a friend/had lunch at a restaurant on the docks/watched the cabin cruisers go by while we ate seafood)....but there would be a freak snow storm with gale force winds just because I showed up! Keep the donuts in the fridge...maybe the project car will have body work and paint done by.......................Spring?!
Geesh, and I thought shipping costs were brutal. Must be something else to do a 1500 mile road trip, have a great time.
It's all in fun! I picked up the soft top from member Mirage today....he's a great guy/showed me his projects and we talked a good while/he pointe us in the direction of some scenic-historic sites in Charleston.
We're down in Savannah, Georgia tonight.....the folded soft top has been removed from the roof of the SSSScalade and is resting comfortably in the hotel room where I can admire it while my wife sleeps...LOL!

Try not to admire it all night, get some sleep for the drive. How bout some pics?
Sorry......I have no pics of the soft top until I return home....It's wrapped up like a baby-in-a-(moving) blanket on the SSSScalade.....
Here are some road-trip pics in the meantime.......
Charleston Harbor S.C........Day 1 and Day 2..........
Brother-Sister-in law posing........................
The next day.....Day 3........... in Savannah Georgia.....................
Now.....Day 4......... we're in Gulf Shores Alabama on the Island.........FYI---this is as close as you can get to the "Carribean" in the eastern U.S.---other than an extra two-day drive to Key West.................
