Restoring console plate
The console plate has what looks like a silver paint on the fine trim. Has anyone tried to paint this or restore it? If so, could you share your experience and how it turned out? Thanks

There has been a number of threads on this topic that you can search. I've got them saved as I'll be freshening my painted interior surfaces this winter.

Hi bar,
If the chrome on the exposed detail areas is still in good condition you can generally have very good results as sug's example shows.
Some people put tape on the edges before painting and then pull it off.
I found that this sometimes leaves an exposed edge on the paint.
I use an x-acto blade to slice the paint off the chrome as soon as the paint flashes. It takes a little practice, but is actually pretty easy to do.
I believe the original paint used was semi-flat.
Regards,
Alan

Exactly as Alan said. No need to tape off first, just use the Xacto knife. I find that SEM makes a semi-gloss interior trim paint that has the perfect sheen for pieces like this.

I will be doing a custom job on mine. I have a a 78 SA, so I decided to paint the trim dark silver, like the bottom color of my car. Then I will water jet out brushed aluminum inserts and rivet them into place, or glue them.
