I was just wondering how many of you guys are still running points and condenser? I have all numbers matching 72 and thinking about changing to pertronix ignition in my 350/200 hp car.
My 1974 struggles along very nicely with them. The Echlin sets at NAPA are (used to be) pretty good although people say they are now Chinese. The set I bought five years ago is A-OK still.
Points here too. Am not convinced on electronic other than hei. Have had problems in the past with several brands of aftermarket electronic systems and most failed due to heat. If you do go electronic, carry a set of points and whatever else you need to put them in. Also on the aftermarket electronics if you are going down the highway and it cuts out then comes back on you may loose mufflers due to backfire. Have had that happen.
Count me in. The car had a Pertronix installed when I bought it; had problems with spark miss, etc. and replaced it with [simple and reliable] points/condenser. I inspect and adjust them every year (also the distributor cap and rotor), change the condenser every two years [unless an unexpected ignition miss shows up earlier], and just "keep on cruisin' "...
points here, thought about changin when i rebuilt my dizzy, but since i spent a couple decades maintaining 1950s airport ground support equipment- figd id stick w what i know
In my 72 I have the points and condenser.
In my 73 I changed to a Pertronix setup when I was chasing an engine problem. But it turned out not to be ignition related so I may change back.
In my 75 its a HEI unit.
Count me in for the points and condenser as well. The current system has been in place since 1991. I think it is time to do some maintenance. It is going to be a fun winter!

If your heart is set on going to electronic ignition, the Breakerless SE UNIT FROM Lectric Limited is the way to go. It uses one wire, just like the points system. No wiring mods! Completely enclosed within the distributor. Pricier than the Petronix, uses the stock coil, AND the stock resistance wire. No mods. http://www.lectriclimited.com/mainpage.htm

Bubba had already equipped my 74 with an HEI, most likely from a 77. Just fitted a tach drive HEI, yes, probably from China! Haven't connected the cable up yet, because Bubba moved the oil pressure sender to behind the inlet manifold, and I'm waiting on the adapter to move it back from Corvette Central. But the distributor goes really well. So far.........
But in a perfect world, I'd rather have the original setup.
