Hello, I just joined this forum hoping to get some info.
I purchased a 1973 Vette convertible from my older sister.
It was stored in her garage for about 24 years and has 47,433 miles on the odometer.
It was transported from Ohio to my home in central CA a month ago and while test driving it, the speedometer cable broke.
I bought a new cable, installed it and it appears that the gauge itself is dead.
Where can a guy get his hands on a new speedometer for this car?
Both new and used parts are very accessible for Corvettes.
Some vendors are listed to the left on this page.
This site has a parts for sale/wanted section..then there's always E-Bay.
A good idea would be to get the various vendor catalogs, to familarize yourself with the parts availability, as an owner of a C3 you inevitably will be searching out other parts.
Post up some pics of your car.
Good luck.
I also just purchased a 73 Convertible. To make a long story short, purchased the car new 12/72, owned for ten years, sold, and 36 years later my son and I located the car and bought it back. In the past six months I have found answers for many questions just reading through the posts by the people on this forum. It is a great source of info on both parts and procedures. In all probability we will both be searching for some of the same parts and solving some of the same problems. Best of luck with the 73 and welcome to a fellow "new member" to this forum.
Hi R,
Welcome!!! First Post!
New 73 convertible....well done!
Instead of buying a new speedometer you might consider having your present one repaired. There are people that provide that service.
Although you're on the west coast you might try D&M Restoration, 800-722-0854. They're on the east coast but do very good work at a reasonable cost.
The distance will add a couple days shipping each way but that may be a good thing in that it'll give you some time to recover from the torture that getting the speedo out of the dash will be.
Are you sure it's the speedometer and not still a cable or gear problem?
Regards,
Alan
Welcome aboard to both of you! This forum is full of knowledgable people that are always willing to help.
Rrddbb - adding to Alan71's post, make sure to check the connection of the cable at the tranny end. You might want to disconnect it there and turn it to see if the speedometer moves.

Thanks to all of you for responding so quickly. I'm pretty sure it's the speedo itself.
The needle was jumping wildly B4 it fell to zero. The new cable spun at both ends B4 I installed it also. I'm no expert but it has to be the gauge. I saw some on Ebay.
I'll check local shops to see if it can be repaired. It would be nice to keep the original
in the car. Thanks again my friends. I'll let you know the outcome.
