I thought that he lower dash pads in '68 did not have the handles to open and close the vents next to the vent *****. Mine do. They are '68 because they have the ignition switch and no map pocket. Anyone heard of this?
Hi 2s90,
The passenger's side and driver's pads shown in the Dobbin's book shows the vent with no **** to open and close it.
?
Not sure what you have. Does your passenger's side pad have a map pocket?
Regards,
Alan

Alan,
Thanks. That's the problem. The NCRS Guide says no **** but mine has them and my left pad has the ignition switch (correct for '68) and the right pad does not have a map pocket.

My early '68 has no handles for the vents - driver's side dash pad has the ignition switch and passenger's side has no map pocket. BK3
My Oct 67 build 68 has no handles on any lower dash pad.
Does anybody have a pic of this dash panels with the handles ?
I have no idea what they look like or what they do.

It is more of a pull than a handle. It's to open the fresh air vent. From what I can tell it only came on '69 and later cars.
My April built 68 does not have the ***** in the dash to open and close the fresh air vents. My hunch is that a previous owner has added them to your car.
Post pics of your dash.

Fresh air on the 68 comes through the A-Pillars out the kickpanels and this cold air vent is controlled by levers on the ctr console ( on my non AC car ).
What does this dash lever on the 69 control then. The Eyeball outlets ?
As far as I know, on the 68 , they do not have a shut off valve, do they ?

Nope. For non-air 68s, the console ***** (VENT) open and close the kick panel vent doors. Outside air through the dash ***** is adjusted by turning the ball.
My early 68 does not have open/close **** on the dash. As Easy Mike stated, the sliding vent ***** for the kick panels are on the shift plate - shown in the 1st picture.
68's Do not have the *****. There is no valve to turn off the air vent. Someone added them. I changed mine, but I have the mechanism and ***** pointing to the firewall and so are invisible. Lou.

Not to high jack but is your horn button correct for a early 68? Mine is a October 67 build. Just want to get it right.
BTW, my 68 boes not have the pulls for the vent *****.

not to disagree with you my 68 has shut off [I believe] mechanisn from the factory, impossible to use when driving as it is behind the dash pads out of reach.

Post a pic of what you have found.
...Just took a closer look. It seems that one of the previous owners decided to drill the dash...
Too Slow: you are entitled to shoot one PO.
